Ben Doughty: The Life and Crimes of a Boxing Doyen

Ben Doughty went missing after an attempted ticket scam. Since then, the self-described 'Boxing Doyen', has gone on a mission to repair his tattered reputation in the only place that counts: Facebook. Despite Dougty's continued promotion of his achievements - sobriety, a fabricated amateur boxing record, speed pad training in illogical places, taking the great Ashante Hendrickson into deep waters, and so on - he has become a long-standing figure of ridicule on CheckHookBoxing. Eagle-eyed posters spotted his egg-stained blazer, his habit of sleeping on other people's sofas, the lack of desire to hold down a stable job, and ran with it.

People from as far as LA have shared their stories about Doughty, most of which have been of the ridiculing variety. This, combined with Photoshop's, ramblings of a thesaurus-assisted Doyen, a heated rivalry with Jeff Thomas, and an appearance by the man himself, has caused this thread to be one of the most popular in CHB's history.

Read on and enjoy the ride.

First off, it always amazes me how this guy seems to have a loyal following. I just don't get it. It's one of life's big mysteries.

Well the man has now done a disappearing act after taking 10s of thousands of pounds for non existent Brook-GGG tickets. Yet his Facebook is still full of his followers telling people to calm down and hoping he's OK

Mind boggling.

Please feel free to post your favourite Doughy interviews and funny posts. A personal favourite of mine was when he was pretending to be a real reporter to Eubank Sr and Eubank just goes "who are you" to which Doughty replies "I have a big page on facebook" :rofl

Funnily enough i was going to post about this.

I was watching the Chelsea game and was getting distracted at HT by this coming down my timeline.

Noticed some are concerned about his welfare and others fuming.

He cancelled his meet and greet with Michael Spinks the other day because of threats he was receiving apparently.

It's quite unbelievable. Cons people out of thousands of pounds, does a runner and his followers are all "hope he's ok".

He did something similar a few months back but not on this scale and he paid it back.

Heard about this about a week ago on Facebook. I've never followed him at all, but always thought Doughty was just a bit weird whenever I came across his posts.
Apparently he's taken money off actual professional boxers as well? Fancy trying to con a group of people off who are all trained to fight.

Yep watching that video i was cringing at the convo.

Sadly i suppose people have met him and felt he was genuine. The love he gets on facebook is unreal. I do wonder how many of those 5k followers have actually met him before.

There is a video where he is talking about being turfed out of his home by his wife and sleeping in the gym.

Used to follow his page for a few years and was pretty vocal on it at one point but un-friended him for a couple of reasons.

Firstly his followers started to annoy me, making him out be a the second coming at one point.

Secondly, it became very much a case of 'this is my opinion, you're wrong if you think otherwise'. I suppose we can all be like that but it got a bit much.

Honestly these stories don't really surprise me too much which is a shame. Not followed him for a year or so so can't really comment but it's a shame for the poor sods he has screwed out of thousands of pounds.

Hamilton can overexergerate things so wouldn't be shocked.

In saying that though it sounds like he's got over 50k out of this so people obviously did trust him.

I wouldn't be shocked if some wives did go mental when their husband goes "hunny, you know that Ben guy on my FB?. Well i gave him 2 grand for tickets to Golovkin Vs Brook and he never sent them. Don't worry though i'm sure he's working on something. His reputation is on the line. In the meantime i've pawned our wedding rings"..

ha ha ha....as an outsider its funny as fuck, obviously not for the guys who lost money. Matt Hamilton is doing his darndest to distance himself from Doughty, which i suppose is fair enough as hes nothing to do with it. Im hearing anything between 40k and 60k, thats serious shit. I understand ones have contacted the cops over it

I almost used him to get tickets for Canelo Brook, something didn't feel right and ended up getting them at the arena.

He never pushed the issue at all though, just told me which bracket he could get and that's all.
Fair play. Least Golovkin vs Brook was an actual fight.
