Besides Mulholland Dr., There Will Be Blood, Last Life in the Universe or something like Amelie - Oldboy by far had the largest impact on my movie perception in the first decade of the 2000s. It's just about perfect in every sense from storytelling to direction to acting to music to sound design to the nasty, gory details. It's Park Chan-wook and Choi Min-sik at their absolute best. Having rewatched recently as a 30-something it obviously doesn't have the same gut-punch as back in 2004 when I first saw it, it's still absolutely phenomenal in portraying someone's insanity through style, reoccurring themes in art decoration, wallpapers, music and even phone ringtones. So I can't quite give it anything less than the perfect 10/10 score.

It's a great movie, made in a time when I was naive and stupid thinking Koreans were decent people. Goes to show even turds have their day in the sun.

I don't look at movies in the artsy fartsy way, either they're entertaining or not. Oldboy was entertaining.

Fantastic film, bought it on DVD probably 2-3 years after release.

Haven’t watched it for a long time actually, might have to find it and give it another blast.

The remastered Blu-Ray version is coming to western markets soon. Got myself a viewing of it and it's a huge upgrade in quality compared to previous releases. Best experienced in remastered IMO.

Sits proudly on my shelf in its steelbook, it’s a fantastic film in short.

Yeah to be fair I don’t think my old DVD would look very good nowadays.
