Most games start at 9:30pm here. Exactly the time my alarm goes off to wake me up. :yep Looking forward to keeping track of the games on quiet winter nights.

It's shaping up very, very, very interesting.

Pakistan, as always, basket case as fuck. Weird last minute selections, making demands players prove themselves in the warm up with England then pick them anyway after they don't play. Players bad mouthing coaches. If they hold together it'll be a miracle, but the biggest game of the tournament, India-Pakistan, willbe their seventh straight loss to their bitter rivals at a WC if they can't win it. That one is June 15th or 16th and it's a day off work job for me.

The craziest story is Asif Ali. Poor guy, his daughter died just aged two from cancer a few days ago. This motherfucker is turning out for his country at the world cup though. It's crazy.

" Want to remember Dua as a warrior. She was my strength and inspiration. The fragrance of her memories is going to stay with me forever...leaving today to join Pakistan team in UK."

That guy is badass and I hope he has a great, great tournament.

They got plenty of other interesting players. Shaheen Afridi is a 6'6 left arm quick and at 19 years of age could be a tournament break out. He'll get games. He's already got 10 ODIs under his belt and taken 19 wickets at 19 runs. Big tournament is possible for him. Was impressed with his test performances this past year. Weird angles for batsmen, you can prep for a left hander, but one that tall, it's difficult.

Then you've got Mo Hafeez. This is end of days for the old boy, sixteen years behind him an key to Pakistani ambitions. Still ranked among the best all-rounders in the world, he's dropped off a bit from his one-time #1 status and there's a sense the game is going away from him; he has embraced more aggressive cricket but you wonder if the body will hold up through an 11 game tournament. It's key that it does if Pakistan are to make their mark.

Fakhar Zaman averages more than 50 in ODIs and is every bit as weird and wonderful as Jos, if not quite as destructive. He seems to be in the mood.

Their big problems will be fielding and the usual temperament stuff. Cricket team is a basket case, but it's a dangerous basket case. I think they'll take one of the four major scalps, but will probably have to make do. I'd love to see them beat India; unfortunately I can't see it.

First few days:

Thu May 30th: England-South Africa
Fri May 31st: Windies-Pakistan
Sat June 1st: New Zealand-Sri Lanka
Sat June 1st: Australia-Afghanistan
Sun June 2nd: South Africa-Bangladesh
Mon June 3rd: England-Pakistan

Key games in the very first week. I'd suggest that the loser of Windies-Pakistan is already ruled out of the last four; NZ have to beat SRL if they're ambitions are serious; Australia have a similar must-win against Afghanistan. Bangaldesh meanwhile will probably come up against a South African side that have lost to England and if SA do (lose to England I mean) they have a must-win against arguably the most dangerous giant-killers in the tournament. Nobody is carting Bangladesh around the ground IMO. So you could have the #3 ODI side in the world ruled out of the last four as early as Sunday.

Key games for key sides right off the bat.

Nice to see Smith shut the crowd up with a nice century in the warm up against England

They reckon he’s so in the zone when batting he doesn’t hear anything from the crowd anyway

Fuck this World Cup, and fuck the ICC.

Here are the team captains.

Here were the team captains in 1999.

And in 2007:

And in 2011:

Notice anything? Cricket has SHRUNK, because the cunts who run it don't give a single fuck about the health of the international game or about anyone outside of India. And to a lesser extent, Australia and England. So this is the smallest tournament since 19 fucking 92, before the professional era FFS. :patsch

Oh yeah, remember the NZ team, you know, the losing finalists in the last tournament? Who are universally respected and very popular across the cricketing world?

Yeah, they played a warmup match yesterday and that was their first game of cricket for 3 months. Any game of cricket, since the NZ domestic season wrapped up in mid-March.

What a bunch of utter cunts the ICC are. Honestly, I couldn't give a fuck about this tournament. International cricket is on life support as far as I'm concerned. Outside of the Ashes, I just don't care any more. The game's administrators don't care about international cricket, why should I?

They could have paid for matches like bangladesh pretty much sponsored the whole tri series vs Ireland and West indies

Or the International Cricket Council could give a fuck about promoting and growing the game. That could work too. :bart

No point in complaining about it, they just got to go and win the whole thing. They could do it, definitely. You could argue they have the two best batsmen in the tournament on form (Williamson and Taylor) and the best bowler (Boult). Of course, Bumhra the ever living and God himself would have plenty to say about this, but say this turns out to be the case, NZ could lift the trophy.

Their problem is bowling once Boult is off and the ball has softened; those numbers aren't great. Boult is the key man for you for all the handjobs Williamson is getting.

Good to see the Aussie selectors now faced with who-to-leave-out problems after a year of who-do-we-put in?
