Afghaaaan 39-0. Henry, who has been the best bowler in the tournament in the early going, is not looking great, at all. Afghanistan have rode their luck a little bit, but both openers are in now. Would love to see them get to a hundred without loss. Zazai has just hit a monster six. Undaunted.

Here's a photo of Afghan babe Vida Samadzai to celebrate.

Afghan dominated the power play then gave up 3 wickets in 11 balls.

250 tops probably.

Brilliant from England.

Seventh consecutive score over 300, a new world record.
Could have been even more too. Root slowed it down a touch, and Roy was a bit unlucky when going for another 6. Hopefully Buttler is okay, he's fucking great to watch. Would you see a place for Foakes in the one day team in the future?

Foakes is unlucky because we have Bairstow and Buttler who are freakishly good and both keep wicket.

I'm not sure he is good enough to get in as a specialist batsmen. Especially when the expectation is you have to score runs and really need to be scoring them at a SR of 110+

Fair enough, I don't know the sport well enough to call these things, hence asking. Obviously he's the better keeper, but with runs being so important in ODI it makes sense to stick with the bigger, more aggressive hitters.

Couldn’t he replace the West Indian or the kiwi or perhaps the paddy???

Any South Africans at the moment? Surely there is at least one??

Tbf "the West Indian" has an English father and a British passport and has been clear from the go that he wanted to play for England. So, you know.

Pffft yeah, because of the money no doubt, the kid grew up in Barbados all his life, played junior international games for the Windies, but the ol father rule gets him in

Even that was changed to fast track him in
7 to 3 I think.

They deny they changed it for him, but come on...

Tbf though, I just don't think it's in any way odd to play international sport for the country your father hailed from. I just don't think that's objectionable in any way. England have way more oogy skeletons in their closet than that. I don't give a fuck, personally. Seems legit.

Though it's defo nice to be shy a robust quick and produce a Windies bull with the most economical run in of any international quick, ever (maybe).

It's looking like it will be a cracking tournament home favourites England mean nothing looks very tight India and Australia always strong and the two sides I think have a real chance as well New Zealand and the West Indies outsiders but value bets.

South Africa are bang in trouble some quality players but seem to have a mental block at tournament level.

Pretty boring today, but that was a very pretty knock from Williamson for all that it was a little old fashioned. 79 not out.

Oh yeah, it’s not unusual & obviously legit but there’s still plenty of cause to be cynical considering he apparently grew up playing in the islands, given the choice between the the countries between the two countries it’s obvious where he would benefit the most, at least in the short term

Dhawan has a potentially broken thumb (took a knock) and despite this is batting out of his skin, releasing the bat with the bottom hand any time he goes through the ball. Real skill and control. That said, why is he facing spin bowling? That's not great captaincy IMO. Keep jarring that thumb, make him uncomfortable, make him long for the dressing room AND HIS MOTHER. Even if he doesn't quit it would compromise him. Starc v an injured bat, do it, do it.

Wow, this is some gorgeous playing of spin by the Indians. Really pretty.

Anyway, India 55-0, look in the mood, hurt Dhawan leading the charge.

India-Australia might as well be being played in India. Level of support is absurd.

Maybe some of that energy is carrying to the field. I'll have to stop calling centuries like the one Dhawan just delivered "old-fashioned" just for being a bit slow, because it seems to be the way at this world cup. But it's been a glorious innings.

189-1. Australia getting fish-hooked, have it all to do.
