Well in the last 24 hours I have posted in:

  • Pacific Islands thread
  • Insane SJW thread (that I started)
  • Dozen post update in the eerie/creepy thread that I started and have regularly updated for years
  • Posted a couple of times in the Petty Irritants thread (that I started).
I only talk about one thing? Half of this lounge is threads I started about any random topic under the sun, ffs. I routinely get trashed for wanting to ask the forum's stance on some completely random shit. :patsch

:hat
Ok so any thoughts on EL chapo? Or this shit from your own damn country?

Im not saying you are a one trick pony and you do make some great threads but you have to have a little word with yourself about your childish protestations about trump. He won. You cant deal with it.

The day I vote for someone who's professional political response is "New party, who dis?" is the day I give up on politics.

BTW I'm from California and a democrat. If this is the future of the party then lord help us all.
The Democratic Party is committing suicide by backing illegal aliens over US citizens, governing our major cities and they become turd and needle infested literal shitholes, and talking about confiscatory income tax rates all the while promoting socialism. It is amazing to watch.

Haggis I'm talking about political discussion which is why I have referenced specifically that several times. You also no this. There cannot be a thread started on anything remotely to do with American politics without you telling everyone how you hate Trump or posting some Meme.

All I'm saying is and I can speak on behalf of everyone on the forum at this stage. We know you hate Trump. There is not need to tell us that in a thread about a different politician.
Trump dominates American politics. He has upended the landscape like nobody else in any of our lifetimes, and completely changed what the political discourse is like in the only superpower of our lifetimes.

Every single discussion about politics has the same people saying the same things about Trump even when the thread is about a completely different person.

You know the people that love Trump and you know the people that hate him. They same the same shit in several different thread. Basically spamming the board because you cannot talk about another politician or another political event without it turning into a discussion on him where you know what the general point I'd going to be simply by seeing the name of the person that posted.

I cannot wait for this to be over so we have a bit more variety in terms of the political discussion. What's confusing about that?

I see.

I didn't get that from your first post. My bad.

AOC's team posted the GND to its website and actively promoted it, and the accompanying FAQs, to media like NPR, which published the material. There were dozens and dozens of screen captures to provide that the document said what it said.

  • Faced with the ensuing shitstorm over the sheer lunacy of many of the proposals, AOC and her team tried to claim the document was a Republican forgery, then stated that it was an early draft that should not have been posted, then (kind of) defended it and walked away from it at the same time.

  • The proposals included such measures as retrofitting every single building in the USA, building a network of high-speed rail such as would eliminate the need for air travel, guaranteeing an income for those "unwilling to work", putting battery charging stations "everywhere" so as to eliminate gasoline-powered cars...all within 10 years.
  • The lowball estimate of the cost was $6 trillion per year. The entire US federal budget is $4 trillion per year. When asked how this could possibly be affordable, the document said the government could simply create more money.
  • The reaction of sentient adults was universally derisive. Nancy Pelosi lost no time in pouring cold water on the GND, and has not even named AOC to the House committee on climate change. Most observers think the GND is a lavish (and unearned) gift to Trump and the Repubicans, as it furthers his desire to position the Democrats as over-the-top socialists whose ideas are firmly rooted in la-la land.

A true Green New Deal is a necessity for the USA, but extremist about like this is just going to be used as propaganda to dismiss it entirely and double down on letting coal lobbyists run the Department of Energy's policy.

The political own-goal of my lifetime, especially since leading Democrat contenders for 2020 publicly backed it without actually reading it.

Ok but maybe we can all make sure he doesn't dominate every single thread that has anything to do with American politics.

AOC is a refreshing addition to U.S. politics and to those of us who have longed throughout our lives for the undoing of the neoliberal order of extreme laissez faire that has dominated political debate since Reagan was elected, she is a harbinger of a return to the sort of progressive politics that prevailed in the mid-20th century New Deal/Great Society era of the 1930s-1980s. It is no accident that she calls here program a green NEW DEAL!! Personally, I hope to be around to vote for her when she runs for President. For now, I'm going with BERNIE in 2020!

That's great and all but how do you propose she pay for everything in this green new deal and maintain the timeframe she wants?

Proposals have been offered, which are proven revenue-generators, both here in the mid-20th century and elsewhere right now. AOC's idea of raising the top marginal income tax rate to 70 percent (I would go even higher to the 91 percent rate that prevaied in the 1950s), combined with Warren's wealth tax and Sanders' proposed increases in the inheritance tax are good ideas that will not only generate revenue to finance proposals like the green New Deal but also will reduce the obscene economic inequality that has developed in the U.S. over the last 35-40 years.
