Anyone know why Kugan just removed the Hearn interview from today? Presume he said something he shouldn't have but I didn't watch it and just went back to find its gone.

The picture comparison could be deceiving, but looks like he is slimming down for the rematch. You'd expect he was bulking up a bit for the Miller fight, but when that fell through he didn't have time to really change things up with his preparation for the first Ruiz fight.

“That’s why he’s taking this fight now instead of a warm-up fight,” said Hearn. “He could have made $10 million fighting. No, because, one, I don’t have any say,” said Hearn when asked if he wanted Joshua to take a warm-up fight rather than a straight rematch with Ruiz. “Two, some people say to me, ‘Do you think he should have had a warm-up fight?’ I would say, ‘It might have benefited him to have a warm-up fight, but when would you have gotten the shot?” said Hearn.

Hearn plainly laying out excuses to avoid blame if it all goes tits up in the rematch.

That whole piece and the interview it references reads like him saying “Look, I’m just repeating what I’ve been told to say, I don’t really have a clue about any of this shit, Eddie just told me this is where I’ll make the most money.”

For a guy who likes to paint himself as this deep, philosophical thinker, to claim there are “some places just have rules we have to abide by!” when talking about executing gay people isn’t the most convincing of arguments as to your worldly wise intellect.

Ha ha, it’s funny because it’s so true.

I don't get this warm up business when it it would actually be 3 months less between fights than it was between Povetkin and Ruiz. It's not as if 6 months is a long time out for Joshua.

I’m guessing when they say warm up fight, they mean “confidence builder”?

Maybe against someone stylistically similar to Ruiz (as they can find) to have a bit of a practice run.

This really is shit or bust for them.

Human rights are the biggest load of bollocks going. Why doesn’t the whole world boycott Saudi then? Oops. Fighters should prioritise themselves always. Any benders in Saudi should leave the country, rather than them bend their rules for them.

Hearn has already attempted to paint it like they are going to Saudi to help save the place and AJ just parrots what Eddie says.

I guess they were never going to admit it is just a blatant money grab and to hell with any principals or consequences.

Slimming down, but also losing his turtle shell abs?

No of course they weren’t ever going to admit that. You also knew they’d talk about the thrilla and the rumble as if they are the same thing.

Tbf, those were money grabs paid for as propoganda by despotic regimes too.

It's not like it's just boxing either. Pretty much every second football world cup was bought by some tin pot dictator to legitimise their rule.

No problem. I get your point and agree. Hearn is brining those events up as a defence, but those were also pretty bad from a moral standpoint. Also we should aim to be better than the mistakes of the past.

I don't agree with his non political excuse either. He allowed a lot of PR for Saudi at those conferences. He is culpable.
