Super Bantamweight, likely to move up to Featherweight
Apart from having the kind of nickname that a darts player would baulk at, I can't see any weaknesses in this guy's game. A well-schooled southpaw, he is the nearest thing I've seen to a "new Pernell Whitaker" and If he can stay out of prison and avoid bad influences, he could be one of the best prospects for a long time. He is only 5 foot 4 and his beard and stamina have yet to be really tested, but in terms of movement, skill, ring-intelligence, handspeed and accuracy he seems to have it all. I'd be interested to read your opinions about this exciting prospect.

Nobody else following this kid's progress? I'm really looking forward to seeing him step up. I don't say this kind of thing very often, but this kid from New Haven, CT is going to be something special! It's a big statement at this early stage in his career, but I don't think there is anyone at Featherweight he couldn't beat.

I've been following him. His stint in jail was obviously troubling. He was a highly touted amateur. He's very flashy and fun to watch. 5'4' is a concern at featherweight.

Top Rank originally signed him the dropped him when he went to jail. He was resigned by Roc Nation -- which might be another issue since they seem to be failing spectacularly in the boxing business.

Thanks for the replies. I agree the prison thing is a worry, especially considering he broke parole more than once. He seems to be on the right track now, hopefully. He doesn't come across as a bad kid, he seems to have some humility and decency about him. This is what makes me hopeful that he can stay out of trouble and make a success of his career. Maybe the height is a problem at featherweight, but it's only slightly shorter than Frampton, for example. I have been very impressed by his movement (the best "sweetpea shuffle" I've seen since Whitaker himself), and his accuracy, timing and economy of punch are very good indeed. Another thing I like about him is the fact that he acknowledges when an opponent hurts him. He has the skill and movement to avoid being hit any more than necessary. And the fact that he doesn't petend that he can't be hurt, like many fighters do, suggests to me that he will always pay careful attention to defence as well as trying to hit his opponents. Everything about his demeanour in the ring is encouraging to my mind. Let's hope he can stay clear of bad influences outside of it. We all know how hard that can be, as we've seen too many good prospects fall by the wayside. Tramaine is a genuine talent, and I'm hoping that he really makes a success of it at the top level.

This clip from the Ward - Kovalev undercard, gives a clearer view of Williams' range of skills. A lot has been said about the fact that TW had only 3 KO's in hs first 10 fights suggesting that he doesn't have a lot of power, but as most of those fights were 4 rounds, it is a bit misleading. In my opinion, Williams has plenty of power. This win was against an experienced opponent who went 10 rounds with Russell Jnr. You can see from the clip that he wasn't tired, he had plenty left in the tank. He was just outclassed. Whatever he tried he had no answer to Williams speed, technique and accuracy. I'm not very good at tech stuff so apologies if the vid doesn't load properly. It's easy enough to find, though.

Williams moved to 13-0 with a clear 10 round UD in Kansas, against a dogged and awkward opponent Derrick Murray, putting him down with a nice left, but not managing to put him away. Going 10 rounds will not do him any harm, but I would like to see him getting some more high-profile fights before too long.

Definitely one I'm keeping an eye on now. And I'd never heard of him, until you made this thread, so thanks for the tip.

Tramaine is in action again in 2 weeks time in Kansas, against the Cuban Alexei Collado. A bit of a disappointment to see him still fighting in small arenas against opponents that are not on his level. I guess he's paying the price for his past misdemeanours, and suffering a bit from being tied to Rocnation. Hopefully he'll get better fights and more exposure soon.

TW's latest fight has been postponed, I think because of an injury to one of the other fighters on the Bill. Now scheduled for February.

He's faced solid enough competition for a guy with 13 fights man, hopefully he does get a proper step up in the first half of next year though
