Anyone think Paulie is Sandbagging?

Mate, Lobov is an average MMA fighter (at best), his striking is not great even for MMA standards. The guy doesn´t know what a jab is.(he has literally zero defensive skills, not to mention his very short reach... he is super tough though)
He has 3 knockout wins in 18 MMA fights (with those small gloves), if anything his hands are even softer than Paulies.

A former boxing champion, that was active 2 years ago, should beat a 13-15 record average MMA fighter in Boxing rules.

Some people are missing the point here that this was not Paulie vs some top MMA contender..

I mean, after last night, it´s fair to say that Al Iaquinta would ko Paulie. And puts it to rest the sparring session with Conor, now I have zero doubts that Conor dominated Paulie in that.

Paulie isn't that same fighter he was when he was fighting for titles. KO'd in his last 3 fights against a name, and his last credible win was against a shell of Judah almost 6 years ago.

Paulie’s credentials are solid, no doubt about it.

But he’s simply not a fighter anymore, not to the same degree Artem is at least. One guys fighting to put food on him family’s table - and fighting fairly regularly at that. The other guy has a comfortable commentary job with HBO, has likely made millions in his boxing career and probably had to drag himself to the gym for the first time in years for this fight. It’s a very different mentality.

I just always saw it being close.

I don’t see it that way at all. Did you expect Paulie to light him up?

I genuinely couldn’t see this going any way other than a close decision to either fighter. Paulie was obviously a high calibre boxer, but he’s no longer even an active fighter, and was stepping in against someone younger and bigger in a ruleset completely alien to him.

I did think Pauli would edge it, but it was never going to be anything other than close.
You might be over estimating Lobov’s credentials here mate, he is top 50 in the world at an absolute push.

It shouldn’t have been close, just shows you how shot Paulie is.

Again, you are acting like if they were pros of the same sport.

They fought Boxing last night. There was only 1 guy that was a pro boxer in that ring, and only trained Boxing his whole life.. and he lost.

It doesn´t matter since he was not fighting another professional boxer.

They fought Boxing last night. And the boxer lost to a MMA fighter with a losing record. It does looks bad, a better question is to whom, Paulie or the sport of Boxing ? That´s debatable.

They didn’t though, at least no form of boxing Paulie has ever engaged in.

Nah, I’m not suggesting he’s a good MMA fighter. Or at least anything more than a fairy solid fighter at a good level. He’s not exactly brilliantly talented.

He is still an active fighter though, with a very clear willingness to put it all on the line. I thought Paulie would win, but had he bombed him out I would’ve been surprised.

@Vic stfu MMA, boxing, and bare knuckle are all different sports.
You taking the gloves off doesn´t make it a 'different sport' all together, my man. It certainly isn´t comparable with anything else but gloved Boxing.

Before anyone talks about clinching, I saw the fight and Steve Smoger let way more clinches happen in gloved Boxing than that...

The ref was giving Paulie a chance in breaking up the clinch so fast imho. Its way different no gloves to block punches, ring instead of circle, they get penalized for inactivity, etc. Paulie is 38 and inactive it's really not that big of a deal that he lost. He made a fool out of himself with the shit he talked that's about it.

Boxing has too rich of a history to be effected by Paulie's loss. Mayweather v McGregor was way more meaningful than last night.

I like Paulie, but he gets whatever comes his way. McGregor can either let it be or clown him. MMA fans will clown him for sure on social media. I guess he deserves it.

With that logic, any former boxer should just go in and dominate, right? You don't realize how much boxing affects your health, and that at some point your body doesn't listen to your brain.

Hence why former greats are getting pummeled by nobodies, I see that critical thinking isn't your strong suit

Easier to say that in hindsight than before the fight though.

If anyone thinks that Boxing, a sport which has been around forever has taken a hit over Paulie fucking Malignaggi losing a glorified pub brawl they are mental

I have to say that I agree with @Vic here. It is definitely embarrassing for this sport. The fight shouldn't have been close. It was closer to boxing than MMGay.

Paulie has egg all over his face and some of it, by association, is on boxing's face as well.
I respectfully disagree. The more I think about it the more it lies on Paulie and only him. He's 38 and way past his prime. If it was Devon Alexander, Victor Ortiz or someone under 35 then it be totally different. Think about it.

I thought it be closer too, but even before the fight we all knew Paulie was pillow fisted, had bad hands, and was a commentator. I can't remember or name the guy who last beat him in boxing.

Artem is like 13-15 in MMA as someone said, but his record isn't padded like all boxers and his head coach said he would take fights on short notice early in his career. He's also never been TKO'd and that says a lot about the man.

Gotta take into account he damaged his right hand (probably broke it again) in the second round. Would've been a different fight had he not. It's not like he got outclassed he's 38 and fucked up his hand! Not a big deal at the end of the day.
