Nothing in the vid was factually incorrect but packaging it within a Brexit message was very odd. What the hell does the UK history of empire building have anything to do with Brexit now? That made no sense to me in regards to Brexit.
Yeah it was ridiculous. If it were just to explain the origins of things and the brutal history behind them...fine, but it has fuck all to do with Brexit. Or should pasta not be seen as Italian, because it came from noodles in China? Should Irish Stew not be called that because it uses potatoes that originated in the Americas?

It's the whole reason that "cultural appropriation" is absolute bollocks, and doing the inverse of it and claiming that nothing is British because of centuries-old wars, imports and trade is ludicrous. Brazil shouldn't see football as its national sport then, and India shouldn't see cricket as key to its culture. Malaysia should stop calling Rendang a national dish when it originated in Sumatra.

I was Remain, and I'd prefer we had stayed in obviously, but the way sections of the liberal media and public have reacted is like the EU is some sort of progressive, loving alliance of nations all working to help humanity. It's a fucking capitalist trading alliance that cares utmost about finances and sales of goods. It's imperfect, devious at times and self-serving, but I think it's a case of better the devil you know, at this time, and that it has some good things within it that are better than most of the negatives.

It sure as fuck is not some utopian dream founded on egalitarian ideals.
