Wait, because he said something that hurt someone's feelings? Fuck off with this! If he didn't physically hurt or touch anyone, why!? The guy is a rotten human being, but this is retarded!

Video in question. Stupidly harmless and unfunny, but fuck me, they took it too far suspending his license over this.

Surely Saunders must have known that this was going to cause serious issues. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but has he had second thoughts about a possible Canelo fight? and to save face caused this circus or has the isolation well and truly mashed my brain. It just seems to idiotic even for him.

and here I thought boxing would remain the last bastion of being openly homophobic and sexist without worrying about being canceled by some gay PC culture

Not trying to defend him, but this is his humour. He's not trying to incite domestic violence.

He's done worse previously.

The Board are very inconsistent.

I agree with you about the Board's inconsistency in the past - let's face it, I always agree with you - but the Board had no real choice here. He's now not only a world champ but also getting major mainstream headlines owing to the potential Canelo fight. So his platform and profile have shot up, and on issues such as this one the world is now (rightly) waking up to the issue of normalisation. Some coward who thinks it's okay to hit a woman (or, for that matter, to hit anyone outside of a very limited set of circumstances) might look at this video and suddenly feel that it's okay, that it's more mainstream and accepted than it should be. So I'm not sure whether on this occasion it is that the Board are being inconsistent, or perhaps rather that they have looked at this and realised that they have no choice, and perhaps this represents more of a course correction.

Boxing wants to be seen as a mainstream sport. It already has to overcome the hurdle that a percentage of society will instinctively disapprove of fighting and not consider it a sport. It simply can't afford also not to hold its competitors to the same standards expected in more mainstream sports, and inevitably it starts with the more high profile participants.

I don’t think he’s been suspended for this on his own. He was probably on a final warning after the shenanigans with the smack head.

I do find it laughable that he can be managed by a murderous drug cartel & have their name all over his boxing gear but a stupid video gets him suspended

I agree that it's probably a result of his cumulative dickheadedness on social media. But it was a joke and a stupid decision from the board.
