Well he got Berbetiev down no one has done that but then he froze. How can you get someone down then not throw a punch!

Yet again we are shown that activity is crucial. One round in two years does not prepare you for a step up to world title.

Weird the way our rbr over at #oth had more posts than yours. Very strange for a dying forum.
Fuck your other forum. Fuck off back to it and stay there if all you're going to do is named drop and brag every time you come across.

Johnson did okay, he got hurt by everything he was hit with, it was only natural to be wary.

I thought that was a brilliant effort from Johnson last night. His face was redding up from the first shot Beterbiev landed and he gritted his teeth to get his own shots in. When he watches it back he'll probably feel pissed off he didn't go for it more when he knocked down Beterbiev but he still showed shitloads of balls and tried to win despite being outgunned. He can be a proud man this morning.

Johnson was looking for the opening but Beterbiev didn't give it to him. Rushing in and throwing a barrage of punches can leave you vulnerable to smothering your own work and being open for a counter, which would play into Beterbiev's hands, he was hurt but he wasn't gone.

The odds were against him either way, but that was his chance. He was getting hurt regularly and so by standing off was always more likely to get stopped himself. A fine effort though.

The OP is wrong though (and the Sky team last night), Beterbiev was also down against Jeff Page. These Russian monsters all pack glass.

Utter non entity? Like every other cunt on Internet forums? Man I'm offended now.

Other geezer should also shut the fuck up if that's the case, makes you both a pair of cretinous little oiks.

My point stands, enjoy here, enjoy there just get the fuck on with it without the constant pissing contest.

I know what you mean. But there are different ways to finish a guy, and I guess Johnson in the moment felt that his best chance was to wait for beterbiev to punch and look for the opening to get the left hook in again, and stay on top rather than rush in and get clipped. Lets not forget, even from the first minute of the fight, beterbiev's punches were hurting Johnson, so I don't blame him for taking the approach he did. It's all ifs and buts, no need to regret what happened he clearly gave it everything he had and can be very proud, hope he gets a big payday before retiring

Fair play to Johnson he did better than most thought and loved his honesty post fight he's right he needs a few euro level fights before challenging for world title next time round.

Great effort from Johnson. It was a ridiculous step up in hindsight though. At least 3 or 4 levels above the type of opponent he had been fighting before. He needs to go back to Euro level and work his way back. I think we'll see in fighting for a strap in the future again though.

Aside from being insanely powerful, Beterbiev is pretty average isn't he? He got hit way too much for a top level fighter and he will have his hands full when he faces an intelligent boxer that he can't overpower. Bivol, Gvozdyk, Jack and Alvarez could all beat him imo. Still it's great to see that 175 is robustly healthy and competitive, even with Ward's retirement and Kovalev's loss. It's hard to know who will come out on top.

British champ Craig Richards will take the Bivol payday i reckon.
Commonwealth champ Lyndon Arthur is rematching Anthony Yarde by the sounds of things.

EBU belt is vacant at the moment i believe so i would look at fighting for that.
Ricards Bolotniks got some press from the MTK LHW tournamentt.

Either way the lad needs to get active and quick. Some fun fights to be made...

British light heavyweight Callum Johnson, who just signed a promotional deal with Queensberry Promotion, has pulled out of the fight for the vacant EBU title against Russian Igor Mikhalkin. EC Boxing won purse bids last year but had not yet come out with a date and site.
