Almost a done deal

Solid fight Plant is prime, undefeated and world level. Canelo is going to have to up his game from the Kovalev fight or he will struggle with Plant

I say Canelo wins this one. Plant has a distinct height advantage being about 5 inches taller, but Canelo took out Kovalev and others almost as tall as Plant, so the height/reach thing likely won't be an issue.

I'm going by Canelo fighting much better opposition so far in his career and only losing to Mayweather over his 56 fight career.

Great news, hope they can get it over the line. Can anyone tell me about the Tweet (I can't see Twitter posts on my screen, just a bird and 'loading' I don't know what the problem is, I used to be able to see them here but it changed a few weeks ago). I'm just wondering does it say which PPV platform it will be on?

I like both these fighters it should be a good contest but unless Plant can stop Canelo which he can't, he'll be taking his first career loss no doubt.

Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant will begin negotiations for a December 19th Super Middleweight Title fight on PPV once Canelo's separation agreement is finalized. Both fighters want it, and if the deal can be finalized, it could happen in Texas where fans are welcome.

I of course favor Canelo, but I'm not overlooking Plant. He showed that he has enough power to keep you honest or make you pay

Maybe I don't know Plant as well as the rest of you, or I'm really underrating him, but this seems like another pick the weakest champ and give him a short camp to me.

Better than Yildirim sure, but worse than Smith, BJS, or Benavidez.

How about this fight? Since Canelo tested the waters at Light Heavy and beat Kovalev by KO, why not make a fight with Artur Beterbiev who is 15-0 with 15 KO's and campaigning at Light Heavy.

Now that would be a slugfest for as long as it lasted. Canelo has a huge edge in experience, but Artur can surely pop and throws everything with bad intentions.

Benavidez is too busy snorting coke and failing to make weight, Smith should have lost his last fight and Blow Job Saunders hasn’t done shit at 168lbs and is becoming irrelevant. Plant is a logical choice here. I myself would prefer Benavidez but Plant is a solid choice too.

The only thing I can say against Plant is that he sometimes shows a slight lack of stamina. Otherwise, he's got everything: Great fundamentals, patience, etc. He fights like Jermal Charlo. Tall, safe, patient - never hangs is head forward. That, combined with a 74" reach, will give Canelo a very tough night. And he has SUPER-FAST hands, maybe as fast as Benavidez. Bena's lightning fast, but he trades power for that speed. Plant has speed when throwing with full support. And he throws all sorts of punches in one flurry. He also has excellent punch technique, with both hands. I suspect his somewhat-low KO percentage is due to his cautious approach, not due to any lack of power. Plant is also very athletic and creative in the ring. Not unlike a prime RJJ, although he's never done it against elite opponents, the way Roy did. This guy appears to be absolutely top-level, though again he hasn't proven it against too many top opponents. - Though his convincingly win against Uzcategui was impressive.

I view Plant, Smith, and Bena as equals. It's a DEEP division right now. (Heck, even Danny Jacobs is in the mix now) And honestly, I'm not sure Canelo should even be in it. But he's so tough, and so dangerous, and has so much experience, I certainly give him a 50-50 chance in this fight.

(Oh, and BJS is a joke at SMW. He should just stick to golf.)

I have Canelo by unanimous rehydration clause. Plant is quite, rangey and mobile. It's a very good fight, but he seems to "gas" a bit in the last quarter. Contractually Canelo will limit rehydration and lower the camp window to cost Plant late on. The Kovalev template was working pretty well at 175 and I doubt Plant is anywhere near as shot as Krusher. Team Canelo are calculating now is the time to face Plant. Short camp, rehydration = more favourable.

BJS: every camp is a fat camp. It's a shame because I think he has the tools to trouble Canelo. If he only he lived the life.

If he's not happy with the terms he doesn't need to take the fight, the last thing we want is built-in excuses before the first bell has even sounded, actually you'll remember they offered Plant the fight after his last one and he turned it down saying it was not enough turnaround and accused Team Canelo of trying to short-notice him and that was the right response if that's how he felt so let the response be the same this time if there's a problem, if he takes the fight and starts making excuses afterwards, I for one won't be listening.

Doesn’t the IBF have a rehydration clause anyway?

that excuse won’t fly this time. With all that being said, Canelo whoops that ass. Might have a few issues at first but eventually breaks him down and stops him. Canelo is a level above.

I'm not saying he beats Canelo or that Canelo necessarily beats Plant...

But I've got a mate who screams nothing but Plant is a bum , tomato can, trash etc etc.. Canelo is gonna blow him away, Canelo won't even warm up on him etc etc.....

I think that's a bit to much.
