trump is clearly using china as a grandstanding tool.

but it would be far less effective if any politicians from the past 20 years were worth a shit, if the media had done any real journalism and if the corporations who tell those 2 groups what to do cared about anything past short term profits.
Now I am not endorsing a better system when I say this. I'm not.

But that's also a failing with capitalism and democracy. A democratic politician will always bow to the most common denominator. If that means selling the family silver so taxes don't rise for example so they get elected, they'll do it.

What we need is a more moralistic approach to politics with my honesty and more interaction with voters, like what Switzerland has. I'm sure I read somewhere they're population votes on many democratic issues.

Here and in the US we elect one of two overlord groups who once in power will move heaven and earth for short term opinion ratings whilst we trust them to do 'whats right'.

It's a crazy system when you think about it. With the internet and everyone having a NI number it wouldn't be difficult to start having interactive votes on decision making, that would at least force politicians to start being informative and intelligent again rather than soundbiting.

Look I'm far from knowledgeable on these sort of topics and I could be way off....

But isn't one of the reasons China is so big on trying to buy up foreign land because they have so little amount of natural resources themselves?

Like they buy up Australian mining land because they have no iron ore of their own?

Australia should just tell them to fuck off. We'll start reclaiming the lands if they don't drop tariffs.
Or at the very least tell China they Chinese nationals cannot "buy" anything in Australia. They can lease it but can never own. We can't own property over there. Should flip that back on them.

mate our unis are addicted to Chinese money
our economy is running on house prices and Chinese resource demand
our farms, ports and electrical grids are being sold off at clearance rates
you think our pollies are going to step in?? guys like shorten and dastyari who are more interested in chasing that Chinese cash....

our pollies are basically fronting the regime at this point.
