I was trawling through a bunch of stuff the other day and found an old Empire magazine cover CD with tracks like the Jaws theme, Barber's Adagio for strings, and various other bits of cinematic scores, and it made me think about really memorable, classic scores. Not the whole things, but stuff like the Jaws theme, the Halloween theme, the theme from Good, Bad & Ugly, the Terminator theme, etc, and then I started to think if there were any more-recent films that had really striking or memorable themes or scores, and I struggled. Is it just that I've not seen the more modern films enough times for their themes to have sunk into my memory or is it the case that films these days just don't seem to have the same instantly identifiable scores?

Thoughts?

Others were stuff like:

Dambusters
Great Escape
Italian Job
Ghostbusters - male (and best) version :yep
Jurassic Park
Star Wars
Predator
Back to the Future
Superman
Psycho
E.T.
Rocky

There Will Be Blood has a very interesting soundtrack written by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.

Don't let that put you off. It's rather good.

Dark Ambient gods Lustmord and Robert Rich also teamed up to release an unnofficial soundtrack to Tarkovsky's Stalker.

The album became a masterpiece for the Dark Ambient genre. It's incredible.

Whilst you don't want the whole score, I loved Dark Knight's score.

Drive - Kavinsky (Nightcall)
Tron - Daft Punk (Derezzed)

I have it as my ringtone. Had a couple of knowing looks when it's went off in public.

I think I only have 2 movie soundtracks on CD. One is a 2 CD set from "Forrest Gump" with a ton of 50's-70's music on it and the other is the soundtrack from "Braveheart" . I really like both of them and play the "Forrest Gump" CD's when tossing darts and the "Braveheart" CD when I feel like some fairly quiet listening. Something about the sound of bagpipes and flutes that dominate that music I find soothing.

Can't believe noone mentioned Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter when it comes to modern movies. LotR soundtrack especially is fucking stacked with classic pieces. Shame the Hobbit was such a letdown in that regard.

Another mention would be Duel of the Fates from the Star Wars prequels. Easily the best thing to come out of those 3 movies.

Also gonna leave this here:
