THE nightingale buildings were to protect against a situation developing in the UK like what happened with Italy with hospitals running out of beds, thankfully it didn't get that bad. But it Could if measures aren't being put in place. Government policy has to accommodate the fact that the NHS isn't capable of handling the influx of patients from allowing covid to run wild, I don't think any heath are system is. This is the point I'm alluding to in my previous post, covid hospitalises a lot of people (1 in 5) and it does it quickly enough to overwhelm hospitals if measures aren't put on place like it did on Italy back in March, like its doing right now
This is ultimately why the government needed a lockdown and changed its strategy from herd immunity to one that took lockdown measures because letting the virus run rampant is not feasible.
1 in 5 hospitalised is absoloute shite

It is the very real danger many countries being overwhelmed by COVID face.

I'll give you credit, I've looked at the figures and it seems like from the excerpt of the Imperial study from this article https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/coronavirus-hospitalisation-rates-revealed-80-per-cent-infected/amp/
that I had been relying on weak data or one that did not apply to the UK. It seems like for the UK the 1 in 5 hospitalisation figure applies to those 70 and over rising to almost one third for people 80 and over. However the amendation doesn't substantially change a thing, if you're 60-69 there's a 16.6% chance you will need to be hospitalised (that's a lot) and it was this study that changed the game and exposed the need for the government to change their approach. The numbers showed that the amount of people that needed to be hospitalised would overwhelm the system. Even if it wasn't one in 5 of all people, for those over 60 and over its enough that something needed to be done. Look what's happening in South dakota right now https://m.startribune.com/no-beds-anywhere-minnesota-hospitals-strained-to-limit-by-covid-19/573157441/?refresh=true&clmob=y&c=n

I wonder what people are going to say once the vaccine is rolled out and things don't just go back to how they were before?
So Dr Susan Hopkins has already said that restriction need to stay in place for the rest of the year, even after all the vulnerable and front line workers have been vaccinated.

Imagine still believing that this is only about the virus and that the government are going to willingly give us back are freedoms.

Nope. It's a new product they rushed through with little testing done to know if there are any side effects, how long it will last, if it offers protection from the newer strains of this virus that are now popping up, etc.

Too many unknowns for my comfort. Then again I also have never had the flu shot, pneumonia shot or shingles shot, so why start now.

Gumbo do you think there is a better chance of dying of COVID or the vaccine for COVID?

I know there have been reports of people dying not long after taking the vaccine and it points to that being the cause, but I'm sure WAY more folks will die from the virus as opposed to the vaccine.

But until more is done as far as research and seeing if there are any long-term effects, I'll just pass on it.

Even if every claim of a death is the result of the vaccine (plenty of reasons to think it's not).

Getting the actual disease is still far more contagious statistically.

Honestly not getting the pneumonia vaccine and shingles vaccine at your age is pretty fucking stupid.

But okay...

Undoubtedly so. The deaths of folks shortly after getting the shot could have just been a coincidence and I'm assuming there's no way for sure to know if it was the vaccine of just nature running its course.

So I've been told by more than a few. I guess I can knock wood, but I've not been physically ill in decades. My biggest issue has been with kidney stones and that is not an illness as much as it is a royal PITA to deal with.

There was an like 20 people in Norway who died after getting the vaccine.

Thing is they were all in nursing homes in end of life care.

So statistically it really could have been a concidence...or the vaccine (which can make you a bit sick) pushed some people on a cliff over the edge.

But even so...those 20 or so deaths was out of about 100,000 people vaccinated in Norway.

So it's still far less dangerous than the disease even of you chalk up all those deaths as 100% vaccine caused.

THIRTY THREE not 20

Same as Captain Tom raised THIRTY THREE million and died on day THIRTY THREE of 2021
