It's also fascinating IMO, the mindset that's pushing them along that narrative.

My missus has a cousin on her FB who she tells me is constantly spamming her board with Covid-19 hoax conspiracy to the point that other members of the family are replying to her informing her that they have had covid and that loved ones of their have died from the virus and she refuses to relent. Telling them that they didn't have it.

The root of this is obviously the internet, social media and disinformation campaigns but it's fascinating how easily led people are.

What concerns me is the ease in which a foreign country (Russia) could wage potent information warfare on us via the internet with very little effort. Especially in times of crisis like now with the pandemic and we have less social cohesion in our countries than ever before.
Yeah the mindset of these individuals is fascinating. I think most people in general are basically sheep, easily led or drawn into belief systems that can influence their behaviour and thinking, people what to belong to something to perhaps reassure themselves or define themselves.

It could be religion, politics, veganism, even a sports team, people tie themselves to something to believe in or have faith in and then define themselves by it. Usually it's something relatively harmless to them and those around them but sometimes it can lead to some truly dangerous thinking and behaviour when what they believe in has no basis in the reality around them or someone uses their fanatical belief against them for their own purposes.

The internet and social media has no doubt created a platform for many people with wild ideas and given similar minded people a safe space to share odd opinions with one another which has reinforced their views. The creation of these echo chambers online where people go to just reinforce their own opinions has led to people with these twisted views on the world.

I wouldn't say could, I'd say they have already started to wage a misinformation war on the west. No doubt Russia has manipulated the west via misinformation online as people now have developed a twisted view on the news. People's mistrust of mainstream media has led people to turn to very questionable sources like social media which can be so easily manipulated by foreign interests. You have to wonder how much of what is happening now has been influenced by foreign interference.

Lol I now sound like the conspiracy theorist.

The west right now has never been this divided since WW2. US have turned away from it's self appointed role as leaders of the free world, too divided and focused on it's own internal issues and in Europe the UK has left the EU and even within the UK, there's greater division as Scotland looks to separate itself from the UK, growing tensions in NI and greater disharmony due to the north south divide. Even the US/UK special relationship is being strained. Sun Tze said to divide and conquer, well the west has been divided question is now will our enemies conquer?

No you don't.
Well in fairness study is a bit generous but I did read Marcus Aurelius's book Meditations. Watched some YouTube videos on stoicism as well. Stoicism has some cross over with Victor Frankel's Existentialism (the school of psychology variety) which I did formally study in grad school.

It's hard for you to accept my intellectual superiority isn't it?

Yes I'm very impressed with your ability to read Marcus Aurelius, watch youtube videos and spell Viktor Frankls name wrong despite formally studying him.

I was holding back without straying too much into the conspiratory weeds but this is my belief too. I think we are well into a prolonged propaganda war that has been waged on us for some time. It's what do we do to protect ourselves against this type of tactic. You could have set your watch by the emergence of conspiracy theories surrounding Covid origins and the vaccinations. It was so easily predictable.

And I think the scope of it is huge. The one story that I always think back on which to me demonstrates this was when Sony was possibly cancelling the new Spiderman follow-up with that current guy who plays him. Twitter found tons of the exact same angry tweet criticising them and I'm sure I read somewhere that these were being traced back to the same place in somewhere like Russia.

It doesn't seem to matter to them what the subject is, as long as they can generate anger or division from it.

I actually figured it was wrong but didn't really feel bothered to google it so I figured I would let things land as they would. Worse case scenario I would give you a tiny victory.

That is the type of generosity I've learned in these studies.

The House that Peterbilt
Yeah I've read numerous reports and seen interviews with nurses that have said patients are in total denial saying it's a hoax right up til the point they die. They say it's the flu, pneumonia or even think they have lung cancer instead. It's mind boggling how these people have swallowed some BS story about Covid, the truth is right their in front of them, literally killing them and those around them and they still put their ideology over reality, it seems to be some kind of mass delusion.
I dont get it either

I mean, what kind of retarded mouth breather thinks covid is a hoax?

Bad, stupid, political, and hysterical. Especially since C19 deaths are more in line with the annual Flu than the inflated numbers given, but have no fear, Slap. Covid will go away as soon as Slow Joe takes the oath of office. If he takes it.

In the defence of those misguided souls who believe COVID is nothing to worry or that doesn't even exist, that propaganda started from the top - Donald Trump. Surely some of the worst leadership in the history of mankind.

When the president of the United States is telling people COVID is nothing to worry about you have a surefire recipe for disaster and the outcome was fairly predictable. Although nobody but the ignored experts predicted how bad that outcome would be.

It started out-with Donald Trump though and even if Trump was the biggest mask advocate Covid fear monger is the world, there was already a prevalent attitude of “it’s just a bad cold” among regular people.

I had to pretty much scold the 70-odd year old director of the company I do work for because he started that shit back in February and he was precisely the demographic who needed to be careful.

Then you just have a lot of already conspiracy minded people or even the type who don’t really have an older person in their circle that’s a risk, so they can’t understand why their life should be put on pause to protect the elderly.

Trumps attitude certainly didn’t help among his base but the issue far bigger than him.

Trump also silenced and belittled the experts who's opinions and strategies would have made a difference.
