Covid-19 Lounge Thread - No Politics, No Conspiracy Chat, No BS.

  • CHB will be closing down as of 31st July 2021. It's been a brilliant experience to run the website for the past 9 years, however it's time for me to move onto different projects. Thanks to every single person involved, from staff, former staff, posters old and current. All support means more than anyone knows. Thanks for your understanding.

This was my original post from 24th Jan 2020...

Right, how worried should we be about this shit?

China coronavirus: Cases 'highly likely' in the UK
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51232163

China coronavirus: 'Increased likelihood' of cases in the UK
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51221915

I was barely paying attention to this news story but the main things that concerned me were how panicked the WHO seemed to be about this when they were deciding whether to declare a global emergency and China taking the measures it has taken in quarantining a massive city.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/22/coronavirus-china-measures-rein-spread-mutate-disease-death-toll

Now we have cases reported to the WHO from Korea, Japan and Thailand.

Anyone following this a bit more closely that can provide decent info on it?

Please keep the politics of the thing to a bare minimum if you can.

I know this is difficult as sometimes we want to discuss our respective governments current policies on the virus but even if you use this a repository and chat thread for any new developments in the fight against the virus as it mutates and vaccines are developed and deployed.

Cheers Lads.

It's mad to think that it's only been 10 months ago in March 2020 since the start of the restrictions for us in the UK . Going out in to crowded pubs, restaurants, shopping centres and stadiums or venues seems like a lifetime ago everything has been so fucking surreal in this time period. I think it's gonna be hard for a lot (probably including myself) to readjust to some form of normality when it eventually happens.

I remember walking out of Molineux in March after our game against Brighton and not thinking their would be any major repercussions in the coming months...boy was I wrong, so wrong.

Has it already been close to a year?
I flew to Oregon and went skiing with family March 2020, it was just starting to be an issue (here). Wife had to quarantine for two weeks from her job since we went through Boston airport.
Yeeah it's madness, my birthday is in March, we went into lockdown not too long before my birthday last year and we've just gone back into the strongest form of lockdown since then with talk of this continuing until March.

Broxi, you my dude, but this is pointless. People who believe conspiracy theories believe that your the weirdo. People who base their opinions on politics have a hard time recognizing that what they see and think isn't simply the facts that are agreed upon. They don't see a connection to their politics much of the time

Yeah I feel you man, I just can't see them keeping this stuff out of here either but there is another thread there for it.

If they come in fucking up this thread that I've got no probs with any mod merging it with the politics one and resign myself to it.

I'd just rather post actual real info in updates somewhere without having to scroll past all the bullshit arguments.

My birthday was the weekend before the first lockdown nothing seemed out of the ordinary had a few drinks and a curry, Me and a few mates were actually talking about organising something for my old man's birthday a few weeks later.

The next weekend was the start of the first lockdown l recall picking up a takeaway on the Friday night being cautious and everywhere was packed but nobody was keeping their distance in the shops, pubs & ect...Then Monday's government announcement happened and everything changed....

Yeah, remember at the start the biggest concern for a lot of folk was whether they'd shut the football leagues down, within a couple of weeks if you went outside even the air felt oppressive and you avoided walking on the same street as other people.

Feel free to report those posts. Supposedly we can move specific replies but I'm probably more likely to just delete the political post and warn the user.

Time flies alright. I was due to go out to the pub on the Friday for Cheltenham Gold Cup day as I've done for 17/18 years for a few bets. Tradition and all that jazz. Fucking creches all closed that Thursday so I'd to stay at home to mind the kids. Not a fuck did I think it'd go on this long. Nevermind be this tragic.

Just got my first shot today (Pfizer). I feel fine, but the second one is the one making people woozy.
Good shit, I only know one person whose had it so far, girlfriends sis-in-law because she works at a pharmacy... still no word on my grandmother getting it but she's in a rural area, they'll probably be lower down the list.

When are you due for the 2nd?

I'd rather have the Pfizer one with the higher efficacy too but I can wait a bit.

Wife had her first shot on the 4th. Will update when she gets the second one.
My sister wasn't feeling great after her second one. Unsure about the rest of my family who have gotten it.

I was reading today that they're going to open up 24/7 vaccination centres here in the UK... they're racing against time. We broke the daily deaths record again today, which I expected, with over 1500 deaths. I think by middle of next week we're going to be seeing over 2k on some days.

Great that we now have a first hand account. Give us the lowdown on the injection. Fine needle? Did they ask which arm you wanted it in? Hurt much? Wait in a long queue? Did they give you any specific instructions afterwards?

24/7 is almost a no brainer under the current circumstances. The best approach for such things is always to go early and then face a lesser queue.

@steviebruno

Do any of the vaccines help in the early stages of the virus. Say you catch it, test positive a couple days later and then take the vaccine.... would it help in dealing with symptoms and severity or has the horse bolted by that stage?

Interested to hear @steviebruno 's answer but IMO, based on the treatment of other virus', if you already have symptoms you would not be vaccinated until you were already on the improve.

Vaccines usually give your body a small taste of the virus so as the body creates anti-bodies for it. But when you catch a virus pre-vaccine your body already has a large dose. So injecting another small dose on top is not beneficial.

Feb. 4th is my next dose. Not really looking forward to it, but it has to be done. If I can't get through a vaccine, I had no chance against the virus.
