Athletes' egos are driven by more than just their bank balance.
And in Joshua’s situation, claiming you’re gonna be the first billionaire boxer doesn’t make it easier for him to take his ball and go home because he wasn’t as good as he thought he was.

You are talking like Joshua and Hearn did Ruiz a favour.
They took the fight in the US because it paid the most money.
Ruiz wants the fight again in the US. He is the champ, he has the right to choose just as Joshua did in the first fight.

The fight should happen in the US, i'd like to see it happen in Texas at the Stadium...
They did! They could have picked anyone! Yeh they went to the US for the money but still could have chosen an easier fight (like that chump Schwartz).
That's not how it works, I hope it's in Cardiff both so I can watch live and to give AJ the chance of resurrecting his career in front of his fans. I'm guessing your an AJ hater as you want him as disadvantaged as possible.

Also It's so unfair that because the American consumer accepts being completely raped for $100 dollars for a single fight (card) that British fighters always end up in NYC or Vegas when Wembley/Cardiff in front of 80/90k is such a great atmosphere. Fights in the UK should be fine for US audience ok they're a little early but 4pm on a Sat is much more convenient than 4am Sun morn!

That ship has sailed now anyway he aint making £500m let alone £1bn. £1bn was only a slight possibility if he stayed unbeaten, and then won Wilder I & II and Fury I & II probably a Whyte rematch as well. It would have been pretty difficult to do and would have need some pretty mega sponsor deals on top.

AJ is at such a disadvantage fighting in MSG with predominantly Brits in the crowd. It’s in the US not a fucking third world country ffs. World champion my arse, can’t perform out of fucking London it seems. His fans are a fucking odd bunch.

He may take some fans to MSG but hardly compares to 80k @ Cardiff! I've had enough of the fucking American's acting like their the centre of the world. They couldn't fill a 80/90k stadium to save themselves plus they are too gutless to tell HBO/Showtime to go Fuck themselves when they as $100 a fight. I resent fights always being on at stupid times at 4am. More Uk/European fights makes sense for everyone, they become afternoon events in the US and Evening in UK/Europe. Night fight in the US lose at least 80% of the potential European audience.

I dont think you understand what I am saying? I agree with you that a sportsman’s ego is driven about being the best, therefore it’s not money that motivates them.

What I mean though is with the ego he undoubtedly (and understandably) has, the claims he’s made previously that include the billionaire comments come back to haunt you if you start thinking about jacking it in after losing 2 in a row to the same person.

It’s more a comment about his ego than specifically money. How do you walk away and be comfortable with it when you’ve set yourself ridiculously aspirational goals?

But yes you’re right, primarily his ego is motivated by the idea that someone can beat him, not how much he makes for the beating.
