Brit/Ire DAZN launching in the U.K. (The end for SS/Matchroom)

  • CHB will be closing down as of 31st July 2021. It's been a brilliant experience to run the website for the past 9 years, however it's time for me to move onto different projects. Thanks to every single person involved, from staff, former staff, posters old and current. All support means more than anyone knows. Thanks for your understanding.

From the horses mouth.

  • 5 year deal broadcast deal
  • 30+ shows a year target
  • Anthony Joshua NOT part of the deal, has 1 fight left with Sky and then talks to decide future
  • Anthony Joshua is the ONLY Matchroom fighter not part of the DAZN deal

Sky is fucked. It will lose the football to Amazon next. It’s last good TV was game of thrones. Then there is GB news. Once it loses football it’s bust.

Pain in the neck really, Sky don't give me any discount off my subscription so now I will have to pay £10 month to get what I had already :mad

I recently ended my 11 year TV contract with Sky, when I called in to cancel they asked if they could check special offers for me but I declined, then during the final month of my service they called me every day (they kept missing me) and eventually they called when I was home and I spoke to them and they offered me 40% off but I said no. Then after the service ended they wrote to me offering me 50% off if I returned, you might not want to go through that but if you don't mind then I'd say go for it. Don't call and ask for money off, just say you want to cancel the whole thing, even if the call ends without you being offered something hold your nerve, they'll call back.

But as for me well the most annoying thing is they disable the Sky+ features when you cancel TV, I recorded and downloaded tons of programmes whilst I was working off my notice but I can't watch them now anyway lol still I prefer the money saved over the Sky+ features, was gonna get a freeview recorder box but I'm finding that online catch up players and YT have me well covered so I don't think I'll bother now.

It's good advice and I did renegotiate recently and got about 35% off. My point was if you go back 15 years you paid Sky one payment and got every major sporting event that was on Pay TV so it was straightforward but now you have to pay Sky, BT, Amazon Prime, DAZN etc etc and tot get everything the cost is now 3 or 4 times as much. It's ok for Boxing only fans as they can just cancel Sky and sub to DAZN but multisport fans just get more and more screwed.

Smith In brief:
'Eddie is leaving a platform that's made him and given him that chance to become the boxing name and star that he has'
Confirms non-exclusive deal with Boxxer
The door is open and any boxing promoter can come and pitch their event to Sky
'Top Rank will give us regular top level content which we haven't had for a while!'
Tyson Fury is not part of the deal and he expects that BT Sport will show his next fight
Sky Sports will show AJ's next fight
WIll look at seeing if they can bring Spence Jr vs Pacquiao to Sky

This seems like the best Sky subscribers were likely to get given EH's departure. Top Rank definitely seem to have the second best stable it's just unfortunate that most of these fights will be between 4-6am UK time. Less sure of what Boxxer gives, I'm less of fan of the grass roots but we will see how it does. Anyway it's all better than Sky taking my money and not giving any boxing!

Not sure how it's going to effect the folks in England, but for me here in the States, it's been a nice addition to my viewing pleasure. I can watch a good bit of the larger PDC Dart Tournaments and the entire Premier League of Darts that just ended a couple weeks ago.

There's also many championship boxing matches, MMA cards, Snooker and other forms of Billiards and for those who like it, Football AKA Soccer and Cricket.

I mainly watch boxing, MMA, snooker and other forms of billiards and for the cost of $99 a year for the subscription, it is a bargain. I did let my subscription lapse during 2020 due to the whole Covid crap keeping many sporting events on hold, but I did renew my subscription early this year as things started to open back up.
