I've been roped into this by a mate of mine who's on a mission to lose FIVE stone this year.

He's just going to do the 10k, but when I said I'd do it as well he started ribbing me saying ''if I can do the 10k, you can do the half'' and shit.

So I've biten, and signed up.

Can anyone recommend some training regimes for someone with average (probably below average :hey) fitness?

This will be my 3rd half, but I didn't train for the other two and ran them in the wrong footwear = awful pain for days.

Did a bit of training over Xmas and decided to go for it.

Might post a log of my training and weight loss etc, see how it goes.

:choi

---------------------------

I've changed the thread title - going to really hammer it in the next few months. If Ricky Hatton can lose loads, so can I :yep

I'll post up details of what I've been eating, what training I've been doing and weekly ''weigh-in'' pics (of the scales, not of me!).

If anyone's got any comments/advice, I'm all ears.

I'll see if I can get down to 160lbs, any thoughts on a realistic timescale, I'm probably in the high 13's at the minute.

I talked about trying to get down to 147.... actually seriously trying it is another matter.

I think I'd struggle massively, and probably look like an AIDS victim if I got down to it. An AIDS victim was a disproportionally large head and chest.

160 is probably achievable if I pull my finger out.

Depending on fitness there is the coucch to 5 k programme, could start that midway through . They also do programmes to progress to 10k etc

Fuck Jammo he's a prick man.
Nice one :good

How did you go about doing it? What weight from-to
I'm 17 years old and I'm 6'4, was 6'3 when i started i was 14 stone 10 (206 pounds) and i got to more or less 12 stone, about 12'1 1/2 (169 1/2 pounds). I joined the gym in late november in 2011 i really didn't know what i was doing i went up like 5 pounds to 14'10 i was eating pasta all the time n thinking sweets weren't that bad and i was trying to get big, then it just looked shit so i decided i wanted to tone up and slim down so i looked on the internet and found out some useful tips and from like june to december i lost the 2 stone 10, eating good natural foods gyming it up and playing lots of footy. Ive put 8 pounds back on over crimbo but i have took 2 off already!

I can do a 5k straight and not feel tired, takes about half hour. Trying to go any quicker or any further is the problem :-(

Get to 135 and you could land a WBO title fight.
I bet I've not been 135 since I left primary school! I was about 160 when I left high school, perhaps slightly more.

Cheers Gaz.

The ''Intermediate'' seems a decent programme for me, not too onerous and is achievable, more importantly.

-------------------

Well, it's time to bite the bullet.

I am 14st - 196lbs :-(

I've always believed that I can put on or take off weight and barely notice.... but not quite that much.

Had a decent session tonight, just shaking off the cobwebs.

Is it best to weigh-in weekly or twice a week?

--------------------

Off the booze ALL January for a start. My diet from Monday thru Thursday is usually alright, it's the weekends where I go massively wrong, usually ''something & chips'', a home made pizza, + crisps and chockies.

In terms of booze, I'll usually have a couple of cans a couple of nights midweek, a four pack on Friday & Sunday, perhaps eight cans on a Saturday if I'm in, similar if I'm out.

Apparently weekly weigh ins are best as any more frequent and you can get disheartened by little weightloss

I'll stick to that then, otherwise I'll find myself just sitting in the steamroom to try and make sure I'm under, rather than actually doing enough graft.

Some PEDS might help. Just sayin...

Personally I weigh in everyday. If my weight isn't going down, it just makes me work all the harder.

Well, I managed the weekend without any booze, and certainly felt the benefit of that yesterday, was able to do a pretty decent all round workout.

Two miles in 16 minutes to warm up, then hit the weights, did ten rounds on the bags and had a quick swim to cool down.

Going to build in a bit of interval training over the next week or so too.

If I can get a stone off in the first month it'll set me up nicely for 12 weeks of training for the HM, I'm not going through the pain afterwards because I've been too lazy to train, as I was for the first two HM's I did.

Yeah.

Might be doing the Blackpool half with Dan as well, that's in April.... he's booking in four weeks, I'll see where I'm at, might end up doing both.

Not sure if it matters to you but those "up and down the seafront" races can be a bit monotonous and also hard work if the wind gets up from the sea.

:hi:

Well, the first week of dieting is over. Not really made any drastic changes other than getting off the booze, cutting out bits here and there mainly, or substituting.

I've been to the gym four times, played five a side once.

Lost only 3lbs, a bit disappointed really, thought I'd be around 5lbs lighter. See how the weekend goes :hey
