This photo was taken just before TransAsia Airways’ Flight 235 hit the surface of the Keelung River, killing 42 out of the 58 passengers and crew aboard it.

The Watts case is fucked up. He baffles criminal psychologists.

Family annihilators tend to fall into two categories.

1. They are controlled repressed depressors who snap. Essentially men who are push overs and allow the woman to wear the pants. The secretly hate this fact and themselves but stay in the relationship out fear/necessity. They then get mentally and emotionally worn down and eventually snap, usually resulting in a murder suicide.

2. An oppressive controlling individual with a history as an abuser who has psychopathic tendencies. Usually kills the family out of rage or revenge or simply because they have become an inconvenience. Doesn't commit suicide instead tries to get away with it.

Watts weirdly seems to fit both those profiles.

He is a weak minded depressed man who allowed his wife to emasculate him, but he didn't snap. He found another woman and began to plan a life with her but instead of dealing with all the hassle of a divorce and custody battle he decided to callously murder his pregnant wife and children and tried to cover it up. But he doesn't have any dominant or psychopathic tendencies which usually leads to that kind of selfish act.

To this day experts are still divided as to why exactly Watts did what he did. He himself doesn't seem to really know.

Photo of the Costa Concordia disaster, a real-life "Poseidon Adventure." Due to the captain's carelessness and negligence (which included trying to impress a mistress he had smuggled aboard), the Italian cruise ship hit a reef, eventually ran aground, and rolled over on its side. Dozens of passengers were killed, including some that are theorized to have been trapped in elevators that then flooded with water.

Even worse, the captain and several of his officers abandoned ship, leaving the hundreds of passengers to their fates.

This is a recording of one of several phone calls between the ship's captain (Schettino, on the right) and a local Coast Guard officer (DeFalco, left), who repeatedly ordered the captain back onto the ship to coordinate the rescue efforts. The captain never complied.

The captain is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence for manslaughter. During his trial, he claimed that the abandonment was actually an accident, as he had "fallen" overboard and into a lifeboat (no, I'm not making that up).

Listening to that, I had the balding fella as the Captain, and the one on the right as DeFalco - it seems it was the other way around. Absolute front on the guy - claimed he actually saved lives that day!

The way he describes the murder of his wife in the doc is pretty common if criminals. He basically just said he did it and felt like he couldn’t control it, with very little foresight.

The kids witnessed it so he may have calculated that his chance at freedom depended on their deaths.

He was also an absolute idiot in terms of cooperating with the police.

Yeah, I saw it a few weeks ago. I couldn't stand his wife, not that she deserved her fate--especially not her daughters. She looked like one of those controlling women who are always on social media posting pictures of her kids. I can't stand women like that.

He was an odd dude, though. When you contrast how he looked when they first got married to what he looked like when he was cheating on her, it seemed more like he just had to settle when he was more chubby. Then he got in shape and found a new lease on life. Like a mid-life crisis or something on steroids.

It didn't look like he was even a big part of his little girls' life. Maybe the documentary biases it because we only see 90% of it from the viewpoint of his wife. Just seemed like he was always working and out with his mistress than really being a family man. I don't understand why he'd take it to that extreme if he killed all of them because his wife said she would take the girls away from him. Hard as fuck to find the motive for him doing that. He stopped giving a shit about his wife, his mistress didn't seem to give a shit that was looking to get a divorce... The only thing I can think of is that the mistress manipulated him to do it. The guy seems like he doesn't have a backbone when it comes to women. :conf
