Police take a wax impression of Ted Bundy's teeth. This was used in court to tie him to bite marks on one of his victims from the Chi Omega sorority house.

Interestingly, the bite mark analysis is junk science, and should not have stood. He pretty much got convicted on awful evidence that should not have sent him down...even though he did do it, and it's a fucking good job that awful evidence worked.

Yep. Bite marks are bullshit, as are polygraphs and, to a (slightly) lesser extent, eyewitness bystanders. He would have been convicted 10x over in the modern world, though.

You have to consider eyewitnesses, but for sure they are not the most reliable. Although it obviously depends on what was witnessed, how close they were, if they knew the person before, and then how many witnesses etc.

In the vast majority of cases, civilian bystander eyewitnesses to massively traumatic events are not only useless witnesses, but actually counterproductive. Every high profile crime has a bunch of conspiracy "theories" based off of bullshit eyewitness statements. And being closer can actually lead to more inaccuracies, as the closer you are to the guns or the criminal/criminals, the more terrified you are and the more distorted your memory will be.

Yeah, that's why I said depends what they are witness too. If it's a witness to someone breaking into a car? Probably could be pretty reliable. A witness to a mass shooting as they are in fear of their life? Hugely unreliable.

Oh yeah it's a different thing if it's someone watching a car getting broken into from your second-floor window or whatever. But anything where the witness is swept up in a serious event and they are in real physical danger themselves, or even just seeing the blood and hearing the screams? Yeah, your mind will play all sorts of tricks on you. And then when you're in court months later, you might as well not even bother.

One of only four photographs to show the actual burning of bodies at Auschwitz:

The crew of the sinking Japanese air craft Zuikaku salutes as the flag is lowered for the last time on October 25, 1944. The ship would sink with the loss of 843 men.

Flamethrower in action in WW1:

Bullet train collided with a person at 300kph:

Inscription reads:
KATE McCORMICK
Seduced and pregnant by her father's friend
Unwed, she died from abortion, ??? choice
Abandoned in life and death by family
With but a single rose from her mother
Buried only through the kindness of an unknown benefactor
Died February, 1875, aged 21
Victim of an unforgiving society
Have mercy on us.

In 2014 a Cops TV show soundman was shot and killed by the police when a suspect ran past him and the police fired multiple shots following the suspect

Police training video where several child molesters (sadistic and non-sadistic) talk about their mindsets and how they approached their crimes.

Thinking of putting together a gallery of photos of people who don't know they're posting for a pic with a serial killer or future mass murderer. Like the famous one of Ted Bundy doing the dishes at a party with a friend:

I was just thinking that. How could a bite mark make a definitive impression on human flesh?
Anyway, I'm sure they had stronger evidence against him? Surely?

Yeah they had a bunch of evidence, but all circumstantial. The bite mark was what tied him directly to one of the murders. Which it was him, but that bite mark shouldn't prove shit in a courtroom.

Well, he was such a maniac that his whole life was murder. He roamed all over the country, and wherever he went the same types of women would disappear and sometimes get found deep in the woods. There was a lot of evidence ABOUT gas station receipts tracking his movements, creepy modifications to his car, stuff like that. And there was one woman who he actuality abducted but who escaped out of his car, and she picked him out of a lineup and testified in court.

Sounds like a lot of circumstantial evidence to me. Sounds innocent.

Free Bundy!

This is what I would be saying before they fried him.
