After J-Rock returned from a bad defeat to upset Hurd at the weekend, it got me thinking about another touted light middleweight that hit a Charlo-sized stumbling block: Erickson Lubin.

Back in 2017, I thought Lubin could be the future of the division. And then he got flattened inside a round by Jermell...

Yet as J-Rock demonstrated, a loss doesn't mean it's the end. Lubin, still only 23-years-old, will have learnt from the setback. He ended the career of Ishe Smith earlier this year, and he's staying active with a fight next month against former European champion Zakaria Attou.

The question is: Will Lubin finally live up to the hype and become a champion at light middle?

He's a good fighter. While 1'st round KO losses are embarrassing, they don't necessarily indicate the ability of a fighter on the end of it. One well placed shot at the top level is all it takes. He's only 23 and has years left in him. I'd be shocked if he never picked up a title.

This is how it was back in the day. A loss now is shocking because these dudes don't fight each other until very late in their career
