Now that testing is done we have a clearer view of the new season. Could have posted this in the All purpose motorsport thread but would probably get in the way.

Thought I'd make a CHB fantasy league on this website; https://fantasygp.com/ easy to sign up and make your selections. The rules are fairly straightforward;

-pick team
-make predictions for each race (before qualifying begins)
-correct predictions award points
-the teams you pick get points equal to points awarded at the end of the race
-whereas the drivers you pick additionally receive points for pole position, out qualifying their team mate and making up positions from their starting position during the race

This is the code for the league: 26571683

Don't know who to tag so feel free to add;

@nezy37 @Bratwurzt @BoxSharp @kf3 @note @Crean @Steve Funn @homebrand @knappo @Ronsonfly @Mattress @MrK @AntG @Hookjaw @Touche @xtal191 @Strike @Matty lll @BadJuju83

Done, called my team MCLOLREN

picked my team without really thinking too hard went for Ham, Alo & Gasly but Im thinking those last 2 might really struggle to get points early on but Im sure Alonso will get the qualifing + making up positions done. Merc Force India & Renault for the teams happier with that.

I cant fucking wait for this season it could be absolutely incredible if the front 3 teams are close enough which was the case at times last season, from what ive read and heard seems Mercedes looked pretty scary in testing which would be annoying, as long as theres a fight and we dont go back to the Ham/Rosberg 1 corner races and titles being decided on reliability days. I wanna see some Max vs Lewis battles.

The middle of the pack should be awesome a lot of good drivers in that mix of Renault/Force India and probably Mclaren, think Williams are gonna get punished hard for their driver line up unless Stroll finds a leap or Sirotkins legit.

Solid picks mate, Gasly in particular is one I've got my eye on this season. I chose Renault too, they're looking around 4th fastest according to some, 5th at the worst and at the price they're going for that's great. Force India looked slow in testing but are scheduled for big updates before Australia, their slowness more indicative of a conservative approach, slow and steady. Works for them, great little team they are.

You're right Merc's long run pace is looking rapid. Ferrari too but they're constrained by fuel loads atm (their tyre wear looks very nice so far). Increasing their fuel efficiency mid season is made more difficult by the 3 engine max rule, though whether they adhere to or ignore that (ala Red Bull) is another topic. Ted Kravitz observed that their chassis look fairly solid so just need to iron out some thing before taking it to Merc.

Luckily I'm sure we're going to get Max vs Lewis. Red Bull is looking fast and reliable, experts suggesting they're around 3 tenths off (hard to tell atm). Add to that their post-test upgrades and Renault's slated engine upgrade before Australia and it's looking very exciting.

My team is:

Hamilton, Vettel, Vandoorne
Red Bull, Haas, Renault

Oh and you can make unlimited changes up until the Spanish Grand Prix I think (was last year). I'll double check.

edit; can make changes up to the Wednesday after the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Yeah Force India are my 2nd team big fan of the way they do things, proper racing team they have no business being 4th really yet they did it. Perez always produces a couple of amazing races a season too.

I have a question on the grid girls thing, I dont see the need to get rid of them but dont really care, are they still gonna have the "applause girls" that line the walk to the podium and just stand there and clap? That was worse than grid girls imo dont really care about the feminist stance it was just awkward and weird.

Not quite sure but I imagine they're also gone, for reasons you just pointed out.

Weren't the applause chicks the grid girls?

Anyway, I hope McLaren gets their shit together, they are struggling with reliability as it seems their packaging is wring and can't cool the engine. I heard they were actually melting the engine cover.

I think it's the big three and then a sizeable gap to whomever shakes out to be fourth. Right now it looks like Renault Burnie never court out FI. Should be an outstanding season. Could have 3 or 4 drivers with a realistic shot at the title deep I to the season. And you know what, the halo doesn't really bother me at all. I was never that against it to begin with but on track it kind of fades away

This time next week I'll be at the 12 hours of Sebring and I'm stoked. First race attended for the 2018 season done in march which is awesome

Same here I've stopped noticing the halo. Does slightly obscure the helmets so makes it tougher to recognise drivers but quite minor.

It was ridiculously cold at testing so hopefully theres some kind of easy fix for that, I could see Alonso retiring (from F1) mid season if theyre just a complete pile of shite again.

I thought the applause girls were different to the grid girls which added to how weird I found it but Im probably wrong.

Im very anti halo but I have to admit its not really that bad from photos/clips Ive seen of testing , gonna reserve judgement till theyre all lined up on the grid.

Who knows. Losing the girls doesn't bother me. But at the same time I'm not gonna say I didn't enjoy them for what they were, which wasn't much. The applause chicks were wierd though.

Hope so. Don't want to see them fade like Williams. They do have much better funding but still, at some point it will get much harder to reach the front of the grid again.

They made the tires more degradable this year right?
Yes. Last year Pirelli opted for a conservative approach to degradation owing to the unknowns of the new regulations.

This year the mediums are last year's softs, the softs last year's supersofts, the supersofts last year's ultrasofts and finally this years ultras and new hypersoft tyres are completely new, so a bit unknown as to the degradation (stints in winter testing notwithstanding), but should be very grippy with a fair amount of deg.

Interesting to see most team's go so aggressive with the ultrasof then don't you think?

Yeah I agree. Could be teams using Australia to learn as much as possible about the new ultras.

I like Ferrari's approach of 3 softs/supersofts and 7 ultras.

Sorry, mate, didn't see this. It seems it's often the case "Mentions" don't come up in my Notification, for some reason. Being Quoted and Likes pop up fine, I think.

I'll have a look at this when I get a bit of time.
