Completely agree mate. Would love to see him beat Shoemaker's records.

However, I have a feeling it's Ferrari's year this time. Partly because of their "magical power boost" they had last year that gave them 3-4 tenths a lap. If that is still on the car this year then it gives them such an advantage over the rest of the field.

We will see in Q3 in Australia, as that's when they activate it. Even so, Spain and Australia are not always completely representative, as we saw last year.

Testing will be very interesting!
You can see their engine cover is much tighter now too. Question is when you make the packaging smaller will the reliability be there. Love that haas livery

True. We've seen Red Bull fall victim to overly aggressive packaging.

You like the Haas livery huh? It's better than their previous ones that's for sure. Mercedes looks beautiful this year.

WAR Hamilton!

It might seem boring to want him to keep winning, but for me there's something fascinating when a sports person is playing for greatness and the all time records. It's not that often you get to see it live.
Completely agree. He is now chasing genuine greatness and could very well stand alone at the top of the tree come the end of his career. It's now got to the point where I don't even give a shit if it's boring so long as Hamilton takes the win! Part of me even likes the boring one sided races because you just know there are so many people out there that will be raging if Hamilton does it again. I think we are in for a great season though and noway will Hamilton have it all his own way. I expect both Ferraris to be on his tail and max also as he seems to have matured no end, it's about time.

Hello. New season, testing starts next week. Reigning fantasy league champion, the controversial @Steve Funn , will be looking to defend his title this year against stiff and worthy competition. We will be using the same league as last year, activation code;

26571683
On this website; https://fantasygp.com/

It's free and anyone is welcome to join.

Let's have a look at the new cars;

Haas

Toro Rosso

Williams

Renault

Mercedes

Red Bull

Racing Point

McLaren

Alfa Romeo

Ferrari

Love that alpha livery. Also I'm always fond of the Toro rosso ones, I think it's that blue they use. Merc looks very nice this year. Booby prize goes to racing point or force India or whatever the fuck they're officially called. Horrible looking car, just can't get on with that pink.

Early signs from the first two days of testing point to Ferrari having a clear advantage. A Red Bull insider and apparently Franz Tost have claimed Merc are over half a second down on Ferrari.

How their GPS managed to account for engine modes, fuel levels etc..I don't know but that's the claim anyway. Still though, early days. We won't know for sure until Q3 Melbourne.

Plus as they say you should never read too much into testing.

I really dont read anything into it. I check the time sheets and watch some YouTube vids but you never know what a team is trying to accomplish in a session. I'm just excited for the season to begin

The last few years in testing, Mercedes looked to be in a league of their own, then come start of season, Ferrari suddenly seemed to either be along side or ahead. Like the rest of you are saying, it's hard to read anything into it. I'd be surprised if Mercedes are that far behind though.

Precisely this. You can't know what each team is going for so can't give a fair assessment. Q3 in first race is when we know who leads the pack and what margins we are looking at.

Either that or the title is already over. If Ferrari have looked way down but then pulled up to being close or just ahead and currently look way ahead and then show the same leap forward as the last few years, the season will be wrapped up before it starts.

The mental advantage Hamilton has over Vettel right now could come into play though, you'd fancy Lewis to pull through in any battle that can't be won solely down to the car. I can't believe Mercedes will have rested on laurels, especially after how close last season was, though. You'd have to think they'd have gone to a lot of effort in making sure this car would be at the top. Easier said than done, but it'd be really incompetent to let Ferrari catch up so much over the last few seasons without matching that development back somehow.

Apparently the rumour is that Red Bull and Merc went down a less effective development route with the front wing, whereas Ferrari and Alpha Romeo went down a better one. Merc have said they tested a Ferrari style one but it yielded less downforce, so a net negative on overall speed. However, it's said Ferrari have managed to mitigate the loss of downforce, somehow.

Point being, it's sometimes not so simple to just change your front wing to a "better" version, as it has a cascading influence down the rest of the car, leading to a complete chassis overhaul, which can take a long while.

God forbid if Ferrari also still have their rocket boost from last year. No amount of mental advantage will be able to close that gap, especially as Ferrari have come out and said Vettel is the no.1 driver from the start of the season, so even less pressure for the German.

Once again, still early days. But I know who my money's on (even before testing I had Vettel WDC).

I have to laugh at some of the comments.
He's a multi millionaire 5 time F1 World Champion. She's a nobody with a pretty face and apparently, he's punching above his weight.

No matter what a man achieves, to some he will never be regarded as highly as a pretty girl.

So briefly reading some stuff it seems generally people think ferrari are very slightly ahead of merc and red bull are a bit closer than last year

would make for a good season as generally its redbull>merc>ferrari in terms of in season development, might just be wishful thinking but would not be surprised if red bull can make it a 3 team race a lot more than last year

Pecking order seems to be Ferrari around 0.5 ahead of Merc, Bulls hovering around Merc somewhere, the mid field all tight and Williams at the back. Plus, it's just been announced that the fastest lap of the race nets you a single championship point, as long as you are in the top 10. Imagine the title being decided by that lol

Who thinks up this shit? It sounds like something the most casual viewer would think of cant believe the people actually in charge would do that

It just means if any of the front runners are having a trouble filled race and are down the order they can just get a point with a late pitstop, and worse than that it could lead to more verstappen/ocon situations with midfielders or backmarkers suddenly and artificially being the fastest cars on track near the end of the race fucking around with the front runners. Also means in a totally normal race that whichever one of the mercs/ferraris/bulls is in 6th and 50 seconds ahead of 7th could always pit with 3-4 laps left for a bonus point. Think of all the weird and wacky ideas theyve had over the past 10 years and yet they havent thought of "what if we reduced the aero so the cars could follow eachother better?"

Yeah it's not only a strange idea, but also a strange time to announce it, a week until Australia? Remember a few years ago we had that rubbish new qualy system they only kept for 1 race? 2016 I think. F1 is always plagued by these haphazard and knee jerk decisions to problems that may or may not even exist in the first place.

You'd be excused in thinking Bernie was back in charge.

Also Steve you raise a good point about overtaking. Taking it a step further, say if 6th place has been lapped by the two leaders and is now going for the fastest lap but the two leaders are fighting each other, well trying to overtake the two of them is a disaster waiting for happen.

Yep and that could get real messy if its say Leclerc in 6th "going for the bonus point" unlapping himself from Hamilton in 2nd whos chasing Vettel in 1st for example. Hopefully itll have no impact and everyone will still race properly but its F1 and teams are always looking to exploit things and this just seems like a thing that will cause some really weird and artificial late race scenarios for no sporting gain. Ted Kravitz already thinks every single thing that happens on track is a scripted conspiracy he's going to really struggle with this one.

Anyway absolutely cant wait for the season really enjoyed last year just more of the same with red bull a bit closer would be great, hopefully ferraris advantage if they have one is closer to .2 than .5 which wouldnt surprise me as merc talk themselves down a lot.

Im still predicting another Hamilton title but this is the hardest season to predict since like 2010
