Just looking at the practice times and.....I dunno lol. What are red bull doing in 8th and 12th? hopefully theyre that confident they werent pushing but I doubt it

At least it looks like Merc dont have a huge lead, yeah theyll turn it up in Q3 but cant see them being .7 ahead again.
Yeah mate I'm a bit confused by it all too. Ferrari are looking to be massively ahead, Red Bull mid field pace, Merc balance issues and a full 6 tenths behind the Reds in the 1st sector alone (which does indicate lower engine modes).

Think it will be within 4 tenths 1-4, with Red Bull around 8 tenths behind the pole sitter. But fuck do I know.

Still going Vettel pole.

Hearing a rumour Merc have cooling issues that they can't fix until Spain. So that's why they aren't running higher engine modes in the temperatures.

Could be bollocks.

Yeah something seems to be up with them - even ignoring ferraris seeming huge pace the merc gap to the rest of the grid doesnt seem to be where it usually is. Still wouldnt be that surprised if it all changed in Q3 though.

Grosjean is lucky to still be in the sport and in one of the better seats, guy just makes fuck ups all the time and has done that consistently for years now and hes not THAT fast to make up for it either.

Gasly is only going to last a few races if this continues, disappointed Red Bull are so far off here though

Mclaren seem to have made real genuine progress this year!! Quickest renault car and could be in play for 4th in constructors if they can develop well, Norris looks decent, fair play to them.

Vettel didnt look comfortable the whole session to me just little lock ups and slides and stuff all the time whereas leclerc really did

Well anyway thank fuck it looks like its going to be another close season was really worried after Australia, hopefully this is just a bad track for Red Bull and they can get a bit closer

I think Horner said they were struggling with optimal tyre temperatures. Their race pace looked good so maybe they can do something tomorrow.

Alright then lads, who do we think will win today? Ferrari should do but I see them being split by a Merc or Red Bull through strategy. The choice of 1 or 2 stops is going to screw over at least one of the top 4.

I think Vettel will be hungry to prove a point and will get TheClerk into turn 1. Ferrari and Red Bull have 2 mediums and 1 hard tyre left for the race, Merc have 1 soft, 1 medium and 1 hard. Pirelli have said that 2 stop is theoretically quicker, whether soft into medium medium is better then soft into medium soft I can't tell. And is one stop going to be soft into medium or hard? Interesting race ahead.

Hamilton seemed unusually happy with 3rd yesterday (for him) so Im thinking maybe he knows something we dont and merc will have the race pace, could pit early onto the hard too which might be an advantage.

Would be good to see some different strategies doesnt seem like that happened much last year

Bahrain rarely disappoints from a racing perspective. Way too much run off but it seems to be one of the better track on the calendar in that regard. You have to feel for leclerc but as brindle was saying it makes you wonder if they were covering that issue in austrailia.

Seb has been really disappointing for the last several years. Really the whole Ferrari team has, they are right there and they just dont execute at the level of Mercedes. Be it mistakes, reliability or strategy calls.

The midfield is going to be fascinating to watch, really the whole grid top to bottom, theis could be shaping into one of those seasons we tell people to watch of they want to get into the sport. Let's hope for that at least

Great race today. Unlucky Leclerc, Lewis with a great move on Vettel, Bottas nowhere, great job Norris.

That Ferrari is seriously quick.

First off the champ @Steve Funn you must have had Hamilton in your team, what a come back mate up 4 places. I'm not bitter it's not like I replaced Hamilton with Vettel a day before qualifying because ALL THE EVIDENCE SUGGESTED FERRARI WERE FASTER. Fucking Germans I swear to god they ruin everything.

@nezy37 mate you're slipping, down one this week what about next time?! How does mid table next to me feel? That crushing nothingness of mediocrity...

...I don't know which one @BoxSharp is? When I find out I'm gonna trash talk you (unless your behind me then you're cool).

I was in Utah skiingand forgot to get picks in. Glad I switched Ferrari for merc after austrailia at least. Not sure I'm going to stay with it though, I k ow I commented on Ferrari's execution but their pace was impressive. Should be a good season

Yeah my merc Hamilton combination worked wonders again.

Ferrari blatantly have some reliability issues I’d still make Hamilton a clear and strong title favourite really, also from these 2 races it seems the cars are similar to last year in that there’ll be some races where merc are completely untouchable whereas Ferrari are always gonna be within reach of Hamilton’s brilliance or their own mistakes.

The vettel thing is getting crazy now, if you go back to halfway through last year to now it’s a horrendous run of mistakes, it’s bizarre like that spin looked so basic to but when you look at how well kimis doing it seems it’s more Leclerc is legit than vettels gone crap at least speed wise but every mistake just piles more pressure on.

It has to be getting in his head. I'd think driving a car like that you dont have time to think about anything. If you arent in a corner you're managing systems. But outside the car it has to be brutal.

One mistake for a top driver, happens to the best of them. Two is a shitty run over the last year, Vettel's run is a disaster. You have to wonder if and when the team loses confidence in him. How that may change the dynamics within the garage. Seb seems like a legitimately good dude so that probably biys time but he needs to perform now.

Yeah agreed he doesnt seem to have as much of an ego as a lot of the top f1 drivers

https://www.formula1.com/en/video/2019/4/Ride_onboard_with_Leclerc_ahead_of_his_Bahrain_pass_on_Vettel.html

thats an onboard of the overtake with team radio telling leclerc to "stay there for 2 laps" and him overtaking vettel half a lap later

stuff like this is why I dont buy a lot of the excuse making no2 drivers come out with, especially early season i think if a driver whos intended to be #2 can match or beat the 'lead' driver then they can set themselves up for the season and avoid it that way.

The "stay there for 2 laps" thing is weird though, like why 2 laps and what were they planning to do after 2 laps?

For sure. I'm sure leclerc recognizes that. I also think teams and especially Ferrari would like to avoid the drama that comes with a intrateam rivalry.

As for the 2 laps thing. Makes no sense at that point in the race, if you want him to hold until Vettel boxes that would make sense

Mate I never got round to signing up to it due to a mass of shit going on in my life at the moment which I won't bore you with. I will however keep posting throughout the season here or the other forum.
