So I just saw on the Facebook of a mate who lives in Rio talking about the new F1 circuit there.

“Today’s Rio Topic: Rio New Speedway for F1... just to get an idea of how overtly corrupt Brazil is.

  • 679M public tender.
  • City council receives only one proposal.
  • The guy who helped design the tender was also a director in the company that won the bid.
  • The winner of the bid did not comply with minimum requirements to qualify to bid. Capital is R$100k, they needed to be >R$69M.
  • Three weeks after the public tender was announced, 34 requirements that bidding company needed to show to prove technical capability were removed.... like, “show us what you’ve built previously”.
  • incomplete environmental study of the land
  • The Rio council approved the only bid the day it was submitted."
What a shit show!!

New Rio F1 race accused of 'corruption'
By GMM F1 | 2d
Even before a circuit is built, the new project to potentially organise the 2021 Brazilian GP in Rio de Janeiro is being accused of corruption.
Controversial president Jair Bolsonaro recently said the project at Deodoro, a neighbourhood of Rio, has a "99 per cent" chance of taking F1 away from Interlagos.
But Brazilian media are now saying there are problems with the way the Rio organisers and authorities are going about putting together the new venue.
Globo reports that the company that won the circuit build and management rights contract only has 0.14 per cent of the capital required to be eligible to officially bid.
"Rio Motorpark has R$ 100,000, but the public notice required a minimum of R$ 69.7 million," the newspaper said.

Manoel Peixinho, a professor of administrative law, commented: "We are facing one of the largest corruption cases in public tenders in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
"In the legal environment, this is what is called a paper company."
There are other irregularities. Rio's City Hall reportedly made almost 200 amendments to the public bidding notice, in order to allow those in charge of the Deodoro bid to be eligible and successful.
O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper says a civil action has been filed with the city's federal court, with the prosecutor's office claiming the bidding process was "directed to a specific company".

I actually feel bad for the regular population of that country. Poverty is bad across the country and you have individuals manipulating whatever they can to squeeze money from public funding and spend it on lavish events which they simply don't need. This case should see people going to prison if it's correct what I've just read.

I think there was a load of similar stuff when they had the world cup too

Youd think theyd at least make a better effort to cover it up than that though, also from an f1 perspective its a big pile of shit because interlagos is awesome and they dont seem very good at making designing new circuits these days for some reason

Yeah it is.

Isnt it the security issues that are the problem though?

Castle Duckula.
Yeah well I went down there the first day it opened right, and I did a couple of laps, I pulled over, the bloke that runs the thing comes over and said - Oi no professionals. I took my helmet off, I said I'm not a professional. He said - you're not a professional? I said - No, he said - well you should be, if I was you I'd take up Formula One, and if you drive like that you'd probably be the best in the country! I said - I'm not interested I'm making shit loads out of computers.

RESULTS

8467

ASL wins the Lewis Hamilton award, for dominance, skill and relentlessness:

2nd place goes to @Steve Funn , the previous winner. Dethroned! Also the people wanted to see me come 2nd so altogether an unpopular result for Steve!

Steve Funn wins the Steve Jones award, for being a likeable and funny bloke named Steve:

The battle for 3rd was the most intense of all throughout the season. @northern lights held on to 3rd for most of the season, some would say unfairly, but at the very last race @uraharakisuke came through with a heroic result, beating out the villainous (and rumoured vegetarian) northern lights by a mere 3 points! What a comeback from our hero! Edge of your seat stuff tbh.

@uraharakisuke wins the Elizabeth Olsen award, as I assume she likes me

In 5th comes Jordan. 300 points behind. A shameful but altogether expected result.

Jordan wins Jordan and her son Harvey (yes it's a two for one deal just accept it):

In 6th comes @Gareth. Who's been dead for months apparently so God knows how he beat 2 other competitors.

And last but not least Michael and @nezy37 . Two men who lost to a dead man. Truly shameful.

Also, feel free to post your teams now.

Thought you’d left ura, happy to let someone else win and collect the Steve Jones award anyway. By happy I mean furious, suspect I was probably cheated out of 1st.

overall what a weird season started off with some terrible races and the title being wrapped up by about round 6 then suddenly we got loads of great races

now not sure the formulas that far off being great and it might be more that certain tracks are just bad

max is going to win the title next year

I usually post on OTH nowadays mate, though even so not very often.

Yeah it started off fairly boring though Ferrari missed a win or two so results were skewed towards Mercedes. Then after the summer Ferrari became very fast and whether that was a result of the rumoured fuel flow shenanigans is still not 100% clear.

What is interesting is how close the top 3 have become lately, which sets up next year very nicely. And yeah you might be right about Max next year becoming champion; Honda have made strides and now are on fairly equal footing with Mercedes. Maybe we're going to get a 2010 type season? Can't wait for winter testing (as inconclusive as it can be).

Anyway, you need to win your title back next year mate.

I just got into F1 and MotoGP this season as my coworker got me sucked into it.

Hamilton and Merc are just too good. Bottas is the best second place driver out there and Max and Red Bull are pretty amazing too. My first season watching F1 and Ferrari are a bit of a joke as far as drivers and team management.
