Personal favourite has to be Manning Galloway he came over to the U.K. in the early 90's. To defend his WBO welterweight title against the highly touted Pat Barrett.

Galloway despite being the underdog with his Ugly herky jerky style. Completely bamboozled him and posted a shut out. So much so that Barretts coach the highly respected veteran trainers Brian Hughes would state years later. That every novice fighter would benefit by watching tapes of Galloway.

Galloway made a comeback at 44 and did the same thing to the highly touted Olympian Ricardo Williams jr who hailed from the same gym that later produced Adrian Broner.

Sam Soliman took ugly boxing to new levels. He was as awkward as a hat full of arseholes.

Thats what made him effective...watching him it seemed like he had mastered the defensive techniques. Of blocking, catching, trapping, pivoting, parrying etc. And then developed an ugly herky jerky style to incorporate all those.

Also additional "oldman skills" modern coaches dont teach anymore. Like persistently jabbing the shoulder of your opponent. Which does two things it keeps the opponent off balance. The shoulder becomes very sore as the rounds pass by and the opponent is unable to throw an effective hook.

Emmanuel Augustus has become a hit on Youtube. Somebody did a compilation of clips labelled his style as being "Drunken Master" the video now has a 1million+ views.

Then there was Saoul Mamby a cagey counter puncher. Even though he mainly fought in boxings heyday of the 70's and 80's and went into the ring with everyone who was willing( not everyone was willing cus it was almost impossible to look good against Mamby) He fought the likes of Roberto Duran, Estaban Dejusus, Antonio Cervantes, Maurice "Termite" Watkins, Leroy Haley, Harold Westonjr , Buddy Mcgirt. To name a few.

Despite fighting in a golden era.His style made it impossible for him to develop a fanbase. He made headlines around the world when he made a comeback at age 60.

Interestingly rumour has it Saoul Mamby, Manning Galloway and Kirkland Laing in his win over Roberto Duran were all fighters. AJ studied in camp before his rematch with Andy Ruiz jr.

Yes that was sad news about Saoul Mamby.

As for the others I have mentioned Manning Galloway last I heard had a landscaping business. Then again that was a longtime ago. Not sure what he is upto now.

Emmanuel Augustus was shot in the head in 2014. Whilst leaving the gym. He was walking on the street whilst an argument was taking place between two other men. One Of those men pulled a gun on the other guy missed him and shot Augustus who was not the intended target. The suspected shooter had his charges dismissed in 2016 due to legal technicalities.

Emmanuel has never fully recovered has memory problems, speech impediment. And facial disfigurement. But has been trying to stay positive and training fighters in a gym. As shown in video below.

Carlos maussa definitely belongs in the ugly style category not so sure about Jake "the snake" Rodriguez. Then again been a long time since I have seen one of his fights anyways glad someone still remembers Jake.

As far as brawlers go there was Troy Dorsey. He had very strange Ugly crab like crouching style. Only alot of work and coaching from Curtis Cokes finally helped refine it some what but not completely. Whatever Troy Dorsey lacked in finessse he made up for with Superb conditioning and volume punching.

Troy Dorsey has the distinction of being the first world Kick Boxing champion to win a world title in boxing. He had studied Karate and other martial arts and won numerous tournaments in those. You could say he was one of the original mixed Martial Artists. His boxing career coincided with the release of the super hit Kick Boxer movie starring Jean Claude Van Damme so he got quite a bit of press back in the day.

Troy Dorsey is in the martial arts hall of fame. A legend in the Martial arts world. Although he has mostly been forgotten by boxing fans.

These days he owns a very successful Karate academy in Corpus Cristi Texas.

I always thought Naseem Hamed had an awful style with all that awkward stances and movements,, potshotting from all angles and bending like a straw in a stiff breeze to avoid punches.

It was effective for lesser opposition, but didn't phase Barrera one bit when they fought.

Credit for Hameds style goes to Herol Graham. Who was the originator. He came from the same gym was the star in that gym whilst Hamed was growing up. Grahams style became the house style for the Brendan Ingle gym.

Here is a short 3 minute compilation on Graham. He is a legend of British boxing. And is widely regarded as the best british fighter to never win a world title.

Graham has had a hard life post retirement attempted suicide..lost all his money and ended up working in the distribution warehouse of super market chain for minimum wage.

Graham was the first success for trainer Brendan Ingle. And every young kid coming to his gym was taught the Herol Graham style.

Graham strangely enough did not reach the heights of fame during his career his style was by and large considered boring. His legend only grew after his retirement amongst hardcore fans. You could say in someways he was a British Saoul Mamby.

The ugliest proponent of the Herol Graham style. Was British Cruiserweight World champ Johnny Nelson.

What about Leon Spinks? His career was very up and down with his early career win against Ali in his 8th professional bout to become Heavyweight Champion and pretty much mediocrity after that when he lost the rematch several months later. Almost any fighter of any caliber either won by MD or Stoppage against "Neon Leon".

Manus Boonjumnong. For those who are
aren't aware of him he won Olympic Gold in Athens and then got silver 4 years later in Beijing. Mad character outside of the ring. After his Olympic win he received something like the Thai equivalent of 500,000 dollars and spent two years partying with it and blew it all. The Thai boxing team then sent him off to Vietnam to get back in shape for Beijing.

Anyway his style could be considered ugly. Tall rangy fighter who liked to box off the back foot. He beat some of the the very best amateurs of his time including the Kazakh Sapiev who would win gold in London and win the Val Barker trophy. Look him up.

I was fully sure Augustus was killed when he got shot. From what I remember there was a documentary crew following him around for a few years in the hope he'd get a world title shot. Would probably make a really good doc if it was ever put together.

Carlos Molina was another. He went on a run there around 7 or 8 years ago where he beat fighters he really shouldn't have including James Kirkland. Horrible ugly style but it was effective.

Shawn Porter can be horrible to watch too. Really aggressive physical fighter and often smothers his own work.
