Got invited to a party after one of their gigs, Squire was doing lines of coke and churning out some classic guitar and a great time was had by all. Unfortunately I never made it as the missus was absolutely mullered and fell down some steps on the way there. :fire

I don't ask for perfection, just unity of purpose. My favourites include The Gaslight Anthem's The 59 Sound; The Hold Steady's Boys and Girls in America; Sophia's People Are Like Seasons; Crowded House's Together Alone; The Afghan Whigs' Black Love; The Twilight Singers' Blackberry Belle; The Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream; Ryan Adam's Heartbreaker; Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town; Elvis Costello's This Year's Model; David Bowie's Low; Prince's Sign O' The Times and Purple Rain; Fleetwood Mac's Rumours; Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' The Boatman's Call and Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus; Manic Street Preachers' The Holy Bible and Everything Must Go...

They are one of the shittest bands ever, mate. Of all the insipid, tuneless BritPop guff that infected my teenage years they contributed some of the most agonising, matched only by Space and Kula Shaker.

dftaylor 'Low' features one of my alltime favourite Bowie tracks, and doesn't even feature the man singing  'A New Career In A New Town'. Love listening to it on the bus home in winter when its pissin' down. I must be the only person alive that considers 'Lodger' the best of the Chateau/Berlin/NYC three ;) doug.ie IMO The La's were better than the Roses and better than all the Britpop/indie stiff that followed. Even if their album was over produced, those songs can be found with a better sound and the melodies weren't topped...since IMO.

Mavers shits all over Noel Gallagher IMO.

least you like nick cave...he's quality all the way...heard his recent stuff ??
Not the Grinderman material, but I've pretty much everything by him. Can't believe he hasn't done a Bad Seeds album since Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!

Love the guy - I saw him at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow not long after the Abbatoir Blues tour finished. He was there with the Seeds' drummer, bassist and violinist and we were expecting him to play a quieter, more intimate show. They came out and turned West Country Girl into the most confrontational, dirty blues and proceeded to blow my mind for the next two hours. It was louder than the full Seeds show I saw the year before!

One of the best gigs I've ever seen.

this is taking the thread left of topic a bit...but you mentioned your best gig dftaylor....
one of my all time favourite bands was the police...loved that band....when they got back together in 2007 i couldnt wait to get tickets...croke park, dublin.
but...the gig was so bad that it put me off them for about 3 years...how could a bad gig by a band you love have such an effect ?...i looked forward to it so much i was disgusted afterwards.

this album might just take the place of Liquid Swords for my favorite album of all time. The nostalgic feelings I get from listening to it are immense, almost too much. This really is a perfect album in my eyes, the best album of my adulthood.
what an album, I was going to post it earlier myself but dunno why I never, it's amazing, can't get enough of it

I'll put in my hip hop lot, seen as though I'm a mad hip hop freak.

I love countless albums in the genre, but at the moment there are basically 7 albums which for me are a cut above the rest-

GZA-Liquid Swords
Nas-Illmatic
Raekwon-Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
Ghostface Killah-Supreme Clientele
Wu-Tang Clan- Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Wu-Tang Clan- Wu-Tang Forever
Madvillain- Madvillainy

I'm on the verge of swapping Supreme Clientele for The Ecstatic though, but don't want to commit to it because it's a big step for me.

The Ecstatic > Supreme Clientele

and you know how heavy a statement this is for me to make
