Former WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk Announces Retirement

"His manager, Egis Klimas, told ESPN that Gvozdyk (17-1, 14 KOs) was stepping away from the ring to pursue business opportunities."

Seemed a bit abrupt, but suppose the big money fight in the division was gone after losing to Beterbiev. Only other was the unification against Bivol (if he won). I rated him, but moving up seemed the best bet as he was vulnerable to the body. Deep down I wanted him vs Kovalev (even if he's past his best).

Enjoyed watching Gvozdyk; felt he was missing a trick not chancing his hand at cruiser. It's a bit soft at the moment.

Damn. Too bad for us fans, but good for Gvozdyk. A real life.

I agree he could have done really well at CW, though.

Fuck me, that's a terrible fucking loss to us boxing fans! Damn, I never would've guessed. He was definitely draining far too much. The guy looked like a legit CW the first time I saw him. Enormous guy that should've been fighting at CW long before he lost to Beterbiev. Anyways, all the best of luck to him! Sad to see boxing lose an enormous talent.

Yeah, felt he could have comfortably added another 10kg to his frame and keep his sound fundamentals. Good watch, decent pop and sound boxing brain. No shame in losing to Beterbiev, though it's pretty tough to get out of bed for small paydays after getting stopped for a large cash out.

I wonder if the Adonis fight left an impact on him. Seemed a quiet dude.
