We have a new sub forum now for politics because a bunch of snow flake right wingers and Trump cock gobblers got too emotional about losing the election

What's next to accomodate them? Do we all have to chip in to get them some tampons in order to post here?

I think the students of the future will refer to that thread as one of the key historical texts of the pandemic.

What a sobering thought.

I was referring more to the people who were in those threads I suppose.

It's ridiculous but I think about this shit a lot actually with many events, I sometimes go back to an archive of a thread I was posting in on September 11, 2001 and it takes me right back there every time. I remember I was getting first hand accounts from NYC as it happened from people I "knew" and it's one of the most legit ways to actually give you the feeling for what it was like to live through that day.

It's bizarre to me that in the future, people probably will look at online discussions from 2020 to get an insight into how regular people processed, coped and perceived of the event.

Imagine we could read an online forum from 1915 about peoples thoughts on the war?

I'm guessing ours won't be high on the list of top resources tbf.

I genuinely thought it started really well. I also think it's probably reflective of a good cross section of society and opinions on the situation, and how they have changed.

But, they will probably just use twitter

Everyone is being open about the people doing this shit. I have made specific threads directed at Clarence Worley and his holocaust denial and anti-semitism. I have called out Deckard for his Alt-Right posts, legitimate Alt-Right by the true definition of that term but as far as I can tell he doesn't post here anymore.
He pops up for the occasional post, usually insinuating his support for ethnic genocide.

I had a long, winded response that from a few hours ago that i just erased.

What I really want to say is I'll do my part to restore this forum. I did my part in making it a shit show. I think it would be quite pathetic if we find ourselves one day as old men bickering like this.

We should all be able to agree to disagree and still have a certain level of respect for one another. If I need to address anything from the past concerning me I will do so. :cheers

This sums it up well, and explains the awkward position I'm in to try and resolve it.

I've tried forcing people to use the ignore function before. And they all undid it within hours. I don't think there's a way for me to remove the option.

My opinion is that both sides have gone past the point of moral high ground.
  • Some may be worse than others.
  • Some have definitely crossed the line
  • Some views are abhorrent
  • Problems on both sides
I am loathe to just back one side and blanket ban the other side - hell, they don't even all agree on the same issues at times. I do 100% agree there's a huge problem.

  • I could spend ages finding ways to limit various specific people from posting twitter links for example (if that's doable - I'm not sure).
  • I could blanket ban everyone (involved) on a temporary basis
  • I could recreate the Gulag and just throw people in there everytime it gets out of hand. This will require extra effort for myself/mods to do this on what will undoubtedly be a daily basis.
  • I just forget all about this website and enjoy a stress free life.
    • Find a new owner who wants to deal with this shit
Honestly, if I were you I'd probably give up on this site.

It's absolutely horrible to read and post on. OTH Boxing is more varied, interesting, relaxed and chilled. This place seems really toxic.

Maybe give it one last go. Shamelessly copy their 2 forum approach - Boxing and Other.

As site owner, you'd need to just make some decisions just to better the forum, even if no specific rules have been broken.

I think it's safe to agree (and I believe you know it) that WesShaw completely ruins the forum with his incessant post starting. Most of the lads are from the UK, but the British Boxing forum just isn't worth looking at. Just ban him. Lifetime ban, no explanation. Delete his posts if possible. Gone. Don't dwell on it, just get rid. Clear the clutter and get normal British Boxing discussion back in the Boxing forum.

If happens sometimes that a user can just be incompatible with a forum. Too busy, too divisive, too prolific etc. I don't post here anymore and barely read it - but it appears there are a few users in this thread that create a huge issue. Just purge them. As one last ditch to save the site, just purge those people who bring nothing but drama.

Might be easy to fix. 2 forums, purge those 6-7 problem accounts, change the skin to give everything a fresh new feel and it might be a much better user experience.

It's a joy to browse OTH Boxing at the moment. They have a few problem accounts (DobyZhee, Juinior Soprano and Pasta Pizza) but enough great, interesting and funny contributors so that these can get buried under the good discussion.

Just carried on reading - so you've created a politics forum?

This site just feels horrible to be on now, and needs a major change.

Nice new brighter skin, simple homepage with Boxing / Lounge / Politics and most importantly, cull the problem posters.

How is Doby a problem at OTH? I don't see it I'm always laughing at him.

I don't get the problem with WesShaw either. He just post YouTube vids, twitter, and instagram on sports. What's the harm in that? It's literally I ever seen him do. It's a different subject matter and approach from Goat who likes to get his shots in.

Doby - just a sad man-child completely devoid of any wit. Total attention seeker - so much so that in the thread discussing Trail's latest escapades, he couldn't bare someone else being the subject of attention so started talking about his 'pegging' videos again. Literally the weird kid who would eat dog shit for attention. Harmless, but absolutely no humor in it.

WesShaw is a massive issue, as I've seen it said by loads of posters. Pretty much everytime I look at this site, I go to Brit, see they are all his threads, and go somewhere else instead.

I've heard he ruined the BoxRec forum, posing endless links, until banned.

I think splitting the forum into a politics sub-forum, so far, has been a massive improvement... there's still a handful of politics threads that need moved over and I'm thinking about shamelessly bumping older quality threads to move the remnants of old politics threads off the front page.

There are a couple of themes to choose from if you want a different look.

Again absurd post

you find it such a joy at other sites you needed to announce it? Wes shaw obviously posts good content. Can’t recall a single bit of content from you tbh

Yeah - fair enough. I don't contribute here, mainly because it's a terrible forum to post on.

Jay is trying to get to the bottom of why.

Seems much more manageable now, but then I'm not the politics moderator.

Feel free to keep reporting threads to move, it's very helpful. Far as older threads, I like the cooking one. I'm going to go bump that myself.
