What is the point of Samwell Tarly? Apart from being Jon's friend. What are his skills? When the army of the dead come, he will need to be protected again.

I do wish they spent more time on the interactions between characters meeting up and less on the dragon date and unsullied arriving at winterfell.

Cannot wait to see how it all ends but after nearly two years that was a bit anticlimactic.
That's a valid complaint, imo.

Although, I guess it can be countered by fans waiting years to see John on a dragon.

Even that though I felt could have been done better. Him being a Targ was basically irrelevant in regards to Dragon riding because it came across as if anyone she was with could have done it. I don't think it needed to be necessarily him riding into battle on one for the first time but I do feel it could have paid more homage to the fact that this was supposedly a massive big deal yet it just never felt like it.

Sansa is hands down the most annoying character in the show.

How do you not understand that you need danny right now! I would have thought her character would have grown after all shes been through. But shes still the same short sighted brat. The writing has really taken a nosedive since they ran out of source material from the books
Agree. Sansa annoys the hell out of me.

Even Cerci who's a cunt is more enjoyable of a character. At least she adds to the drama of the show. Sansa is just irrelevant place holder it feels.

Haven't read the books though so can't comment on that. Don't know at what point the tv show got ahead of the books.

Wasn’t really that keen on the first episode. May be a bit unfair given how difficult it’s going to be to pace things well over the next 5 episodes.
Yeah, seemed like a waste of an episode when there are already so few left. They should already be fighting, or at least setting battle lines. All six episodes -if they're only going to do six- should have been like mini-movies, and they should be much longer than the 48 minute runtime.

Are we only going to get like one or two episodes of a war we've been waiting eight years to see? Really?

I don't really care all that much about Bronn of the Blackwater and Euron Greyjoy getting themselves laid, John should only have gotten on a dragon during the actual battle, and did the Night King even make an appearance? The episode seemed to lack direction and purpose, IMO.

Apparently the last 4 episodes will be like mini movies. The episode lengths are;
Winterfell – 54 mins
Episode two – 58 mins
Episode three – 82 minutes
Episode four – 78 minutes
Episode five – 79 minutes
Episode six – 79 minutes

That's good. One thing overlooked was the shock and panic that the news of the wall coming down would have created. It was a missed opportunity, IMO, considering how big a deal the wall had been for 1000 years for them... and even the eight years to the viewer.

Same! No one barely even batted an eyelid when they were told the night king has the dragon as well.

Yeah I agree with this, I can put the wall news down to this not being the first time it's been revealed to them that the wall has fallen, since they're all preparing Winterfell for a siege and the expectations were that the White Walkers would be attacking but the reaction to the news that their main weapons against the Night King, the two dragons, oh he has one too ... and it just destroyed the wall was met with "huh, bummer!"

Yep. It probably wasn't the first they'd heard of the wall coming down, but the point is that the initial news and reaction should have been part of the viewing experience.

Snow riding the dragon was retarded. He would have fell off the moment of take -off without a saddle or some form of handle bar to hold on to. Took me right out of the episode watching that Hatty Potter type nonsense.

Is Sansa meant to be a tactical mastermind now? I always thought she was a bit of a dodo.

Not a bad episode however. Jon learning he was Rhaegar's son was a significant moment.

We have seen Dany ride the dragons since season 5 without a saddle or handle bar.

Last season we saw about 10 of them get on the one dragon. None had a saddle/handlebar.

The scene had its fault but a lack of saddle/handlebar is not one of them. In fact not only is that not a fault but given what I have mentioned above it would have been made worse if suddenly a saddle was needed to stop you falling off as it would have made the scene of her saving them beyond the wall last season ridiculous.

Any thoughts on what the weapon Arya wants making is?
She wants some sort of throwing device that can launch a short spear of dragon glass, so that she can assassinate the Night King by moving up on him disguised. That's what I think anyway.

I thought the episode was decent, not great but set things up okay. It did spend too long on the dragons...we don't need Jon chasing Dany like Luke and Leia in on Endor for 5 minutes.

Also those "mini movie" episodes are very much on the mini side. Fucking Disney movies are about 90 minutes and aimed at a child's concentration span. The running time of these 6 episodes works out at 71 minutes per episode. The running time of Black Mirror Season 3 works out at 63 minutes per episode, so GOT wrapping up this epic with its "mini movie" episodes is exactly 8 minutes more per episode than a season of Black Mirror. It will feel rushed.
