Casino is amazing and in my top 15-20 films of all time. But Goodfellas is better.

Hands up everyone in here that would try to change their wife, who was giving your money away to her ex pimp who she was still fucking whilst taking copious amounts of drugs and all but abandoning your daughter. Any takers?

No, there is trying to change the woman you love, and there's being made an absolute fool of continually. I am telling you that I was not entertained by the fiasco and I didn't feel it to be believable. You're wasting your time by trying to make a case that I am objectively wrong for feeling that way. You have your preference, I have mine.
Shes a super borderline personality with psychopathic traits...

He basically plays it like a co-dependent personality with some psychopathic traits as well (but less than her).

Seen through that lense its believable.

Now one can ask...could a man be that much of a sucker but have gotten as far as he did?

That is a hard one....

Only response I can make (now this is super clinical)

Is great pussy can make you do some stupid shit.

Also, how are we all ranking scorcese's movies?

I have

  1. Goodfellas
  2. The Departed
  3. Raging Bull
  4. Taxi Driver
  5. Shutter Island
  6. Gangs of New York
  7. Casino
  8. The Irishman
  9. Wolf of Wall Street
  10. The Aviator
  11. Cape Fear
I have never seen mean streets, colour of money, Hugo, king of comedy etc etc...
Need to add The King of Comedy in there somewhere.

Well worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

Ummmm....... you realise that this is based on actual people and their actual relationship, right? Frank was a real person, and so was Geri. That was what their real relationship was like. She used him as an ATM and made a fool of him, continually. For years.

Prefer Goodfellas overall due to consistency, as Casino tails off a bit in the second half I reckon. Also, it felt a bit too derivative of the former. Bloody good fun though. The huge difference between Karen and Ginger was the fact that Ginger earned her own money before she met Ace. She was a highly proficient grifter, and Ace admired and respected her ability to operate successfully in the same world he made a living in. Karen was obviously a much sweeter personality but was basically a housefrau, willing to become complicit in her husband's criminality. Bit of a victim, really. I never found Bracco especially attractive in Goodfellas, to be honest. Whereas Melfi... Stone, meanwhile, was in near enough her prime, and Ace could be forgiven initially for thinking with his dick there. By the time she was wearing that fright wig later on - hell, I'd have given her that stash she stole just to fuck off by then.

Goodfellas definitely belongs alongside the first two Godfathers, in my opinion. Totally different types of movie, but the very best their genre has to offer.

It's like asking what do you prefer, oxygen or water? I picked Goodfellas only because I've seen it more times, and I feel like I can watch it from any timepoint and just enjoy it. I've done it several times since my mom watches these movies on a loop, I swear. I catch a peak every now and then when I take study breaks.

Goodfellas is pretty much the yardstick by which all great films should be judged.

I would swap the feeling I had when I first had sex for the feeling I had when I first watched Goodfellas.

Martin will never better that film.

I'd agree with most of this. I personally found Karen more attractive than Ginger, even initially, but I concede most guys wouldn't and so Ace's initial infatuation was justified. But it didn't take her long to devolve into a wholly unattractive and unviable creature, at which point Ace, otherwise highly intelligent, should have known better.

Casino is too derivative of Goodfellas to be afforded the same level of credit. And Ace and Ginger are too tiresome to watch for 3 hours. It becomes frustrating.

Surprised that Casino is running at over 20% of the votes, to be honest.

I'm ashamed to say I've never seen Casino in full. It's one of those that I kept catching midway through the film. I'll have to remember to find a day to watch it.

It depends really. Goodfellas has better characters imo. Casino is probably more well written.

The best Mob movie is Donnie Brasco for a lot of reasons though. Well... I shouldn´t say "the best" but the most realistic and authentic on that life.
