Got a question for the British forum.

I don't feel pride for the British fighters, not even ones from my home town.

I admire fighters, and I like them, but I don't feel any pride when I'm not involved in their success.

Maybe you should take part in pride and be part of the solution and not the problem...

As for Floyd general public did not care....so poor guy surrounded himself with body guards while walking in London. So joe public would know he was somebody famous.

Other then that as far as your NBA or NFL NBL and NHL whatever other sports superstars. No body U.K would recognise them. I mean you could show a photo line up to random people and they would not be recognised. People in U.K dont follow those sports funny how Americans think those sports are global.

Back in the 1990's Nike had huge billboards with the name Michael Jordan.

I remember thinking somebody messed up and spelt the name of the legendary sprinter Michael Johnson wrong I did not have a clue who Jordan was. Track and field is popular. More people would recognise Johnson if they saw him then they would Jordan.

This guy got mobbed when he came to UK.

He was loved more in the UK than he was in the states during his career.

Sonny Liston was also adored when he came to the UK. He even looked into becoming Scottish!

There are some great pictures of him in Scotland.

And Newcastle

Sugar Ray Robinson also got mobbed when he came over to fight Turpin.

Hell even Tim Witherspoon got mobbed where ever he went when he came over to fight Frank Bruno. That fight was huge.

It is kind of hilarious to see Floyd Mayweather jr the self styled greatest Superstar ever. Desperately seeking attention on his trips to U.K

Forgot about Robinson being mobbed, and didn't know about Witherspoon. That's interesting with him being an opponent of big Frank, who was beloved.

Bruno vs Witherspoon huge build up wall to wall coverage. On both T.V. and press with daily bulletins on the 9 o clock news. Even little old ladies in the supermarket talking about it.

From what I recall the legendary philly coach Slim Jim Robinson kept Witherspoon under locked down in his hotel with trips only to the gym. To avoid the sheer amount of public and media scrutiny.

For a brief period in 1986 Tim Witherspoon was a star in the U.K. everybody in the country knew his name.

Dont get me wrong nobody knew who Witherspoon was before his fight with Bruno. And he was quickly forgotten after the rise of Tyson that same year. But he had his greatest 15 minutes of fame of his career here in the U.K. when he fought and beat Bruno. In a title defence

Sugar ray playing football at Ibrox stadium, home to Glasgow Rangers.

And playing drums with their rivals Glasgow Celtic

He was promoting a fight at paisley ice
rink.

Robinson, Ali, and Liston all fought exhibitions in Paisley, a town in Scotland, at one point.

Joe Louis was very popular here too, he even signed a contract for Liverpool FC and played an exhibition game for them in the war years.

Dont think you quite understand what pride is? It doesnt apply to someone thats nothing to with or involved another achievements?
