Coyotes don't attack people, they attack livestock and frequently enough, pets in rural areas. Wolves do the same. I'm not going to begrudge a rancher protecting his property with the most effective tool, and if that's a .223 as opposed to a bolt action .270, so be it. I don't own any guns myself. Guns are a tool, and not one I currently have a use for. When I stopped working construction I put my tools in the shed. Same thing with firearms for me.
Wtf, my friend was almost surrounded by a pack of coyotes in the desert

Yeah, there's an utter devaluation of human life. There's this view that people that disagree with you are enemies to be hated, not fellow citizens who you disagree with. Just because I think you're mistaken in thinking guns can be confiscated doesn't mean I think you're a bad person or that I respect you less as a man. There was a time in this country where even our elected leaders could disagree in a collegial manner. In that case, part of it was the bond that they were all WW2 veterans and realized that Democrat or Republican, they were all American. That's something we've lost sight of, that's where I think we have to start.
If someone is an alcoholic, we don't conduct AA meetings in bars. Until we remove the assault guns from the equation, the 'sick' people will never begin to get the help that they need.

Sometimes you have to protect people from themselves, and ANY mental health initiative must include the removal of such stimuli or it will simply be lip service and the same perpetual standstill.

Jesus said live by the sword die by the sword.

Live by the gun. Die by the gun..

I don't want to comment specifically about America, partly because I'm not American but mainly because I think the whole of the Western world is suffering from the same thing.

As a culture, we need to get back to prioritising the important things in life. Money, greed, violence etc. all have far too much of a prominent role in society and until you put things like education, charity etc. ahead of them, then you'll continue to see the degradation of society and people becoming more alien towards each other. The internet should have been the tool that'd bring people closer together but instead, and this is largely because of social media, it is a force that is pushing people further apart. I think you just need to get back to supporting the basics of wholesome family life, hard work being commendable and encougaring goodness in people but none of those things are seen as being 'cool' so it's not represented in the mainstream media. The world now is nasty, bitter and harsh but it shouldn't be, and the last 20 years or so really have changed a lot. I know people can always point to crime statistics falling, and that's great, but the way communities have died out is lamentable and it's that what we should be focusing on.

Unfortunately, the grip the media has on this will not be released any time soon and there's too much profit to be made by presenting a 'shocking' society to people, because that's what sells, not wholesome values.

Even the most well-adjusted person can have an unknown underlying illness, though; that has always been the constant. The new phenomena, however, is the abundant availability of semi-automatic weapons. Combine that with devaluing of human life and you get what we have now.

If we keep talking around the issue and making excuses why these weapons should still be available, we are already showing potential shooters that we, ourselves, don't value human life.

Why the hell, then, should the shooter?

First. The massive gun ownership.
Believe iT or not but not all people shooting someonr are willing to do that with a knife.

Second there is a huge difference between rich and poor.
Way to huge.
In europe that is far less.

Third iT is proven that hard and long punishment does not bring crime rates down.
IT makes criminals more dangerous for example when in chase by police after a robbery indtead of surrender and do 4 or 5 years they face 10 to 25 years so they try to shoot their way out.
They have nothing to loose so to speak

The Justice system in usa is not that of a western nation but more of a third world country
