That's true, he's 6'9". (by contrast, his police partner, Murphy, is 5'1/2")...
I feel like I'm one of the few fans (I'm basing this off the stupid internet) that feels that his height is one of his most important traits. Especially in how he interacts with everyone, and how he is perceived by everyone. One of the short stories, I think starring Murphy, she describes him in a way that makes him sound kind of terrifying in a way that you'd never quite get from his point of view. He's a giant of a man, who wears the clothes of a psychopath and never looks anyone in the eyes. He jokes around a lot, but clearly has some fucked up stuff going on behind the eyes and can wreak havoc more than anyone that almost anyone has ever met. If they ignore all that, then they are making another Buffy/Supernatural type shows that will last a season or 2 like Constantine and we will never hear from it again. It has to have a character that you cannot find in other fictions.

TBF Dresden while taking place on earth, also takes place in the spirit world, and it's a different earth to what we know... Kinda high fantasy (shit term)...
Did you read Codex Alera? Butcher's other full series. I might like it even more sometimes, and it is absolutely 100% high fantasy. Cool ass magic system too.

How old is he meant to be? Thinking up casting?

How about Rory McCann 6' 6

Kevin Durand 6' 6

mid 20's start of the show, and late 30's/touching 40 now i think (as of Skin Game/Peace Talks).

I almost feel guilty that this thread has changed tack so much, but it's worth it.

It's a fair point tbh. I always find myself suspending belief hearing his feats/athleticism at times, and then considering his height. Never quite adds up to me. PARKOUR!!! But, his height is a huge part of his identity. I think I know the story you're on about, it's the one after Changes I think. I think Molly described it best when she explained the shadow he cast over Chicago, how he had no idea that people were literally shit scared of him. You get hints that even the senior council would be nervous going up against him, despite the fact that in reality, they'd squash him like a bug. His height does contribute to that.

I haven't, I get nervous reading other works from authors I like incase it just doesn't match up to the rest. I've heard 'Pokemon crossed with romans' being used to describe it. Or something like that. I do need a new series tbh, only so many times I can do re-listens.

We got any Robin Hobb fans here? I don't often think that men write women all that well, and same with women writing male protagonists. That's just the way that I have always felt when reading, it isn't a statement of fact. Robin Hobb does a good job. I think she misses a tiny bit of depth, but goodness her main Farseer world is fantastic. I think these media option buyers have really missed out on her work for years. I think it could work in a number of contexts.

This is an awful thing to say but I just can't bring myself to read a woman's fantasy novel.

I agree 100% Robin Hobb is my exception. She is an excellent writer. I think she does thorough research and probably has good beta writers that improved her instincts in the male state of mind. Butcher has a good cast of beta writers that seem to really get on his shit to keep his pacing about perfect. You should just start with the third or 4th book. He does a ton of repeating the rules of that world throughout the early books as they were more loosely a series than they would be later.

I read the Assassin trilogy, which I loved. Then I tried to listen to book 1 on Audible and the narrator kind of ruined it for me.
