How Would You Match Dubois Over the Next 12 Months?

In his 13 fights so far, Daniel Dubois has went through a solid level of opposition with very few issues. He was frustrated by Kevin 'Kingpin' Johnson and dragged the ten-round distance, and he was momentarily stunned by Richard Lartey. But that's about it in terms of problems inside the ring.

He has already picked up the British and Commonwealth titles, and is showing the potential to reach world level. Yet Dubois is still only 22-years-old. There is no quick, comfortable world title shot available like, for example, Anthony Joshua had against Charles Martin. And they're talking up the 'every belt' ideology, which means the European title -- to be contested between Joe Joyce and Marco Huck -- needs to be acquired.

With all that said, how would you ideally match Dubois over the next 12 months?

I'd go with something like:

December: David Price (British title defence)
February: Mario Heredia (on Wilder-Fury II undercard)
May: Joe Joyce/Marco Huck (European title)
August: Christian Hammer (European title defence)

There has already been talk of Dubois-Price, and this is the biggest domestic fight for Dubois that's realistic to happen this year. Then I'd get him some experience/exposure abroad against a durable journeyman/fringe contender. Throw him in the European title fight against Joyce/Huck, then if he wins -- no foregone conclusion -- follow it up with a defence over a recognisable name like Hammer.

With Dubois having such a quiet personality I would have him on every available show letting him do his talking in the ring.

I would have him out on the Warrington Leeds show knocking over a Commonwealth-level opponent.
Warren needs to pay a British name, ideally David Price, whatever he wants and have it headline a London show in December.

By then Joyce should have won the European Title and decided if he wants to face Dubois or vacate.

Either way Dubois fights for the European Title in early 2020...

Amusing he fights 4 times. Ideally, Price, (British), Miljas, (Commonwealth), Hammer (Euro Eliminator), Joyce (British, Commonwealth, Euro).

I still thinks he needs the likes of Hughie, Jennings, Gashi and Helenius to round him out with experience before jumping to a higher level after that though.

Joyce won't be in the mix in 4 fights time I don't think.
I expect him to win the European, maybe defend it, then drop it to chase the WBA regular.

When he drops it Duboi's will step up..

I agree, It's all too neat. I can't see Hughie or Price wanting it with out an over the top purse either.

In terms of it being a spectacle, I agree. But it would be a good learning experience for Dubois.
Dubois struggled a bit with Kingpin, compared with AJ anyway. Could be an idea to try him out against another negative fighter, see if he has improved.

Hughie is a risky fight for him though, and brings very little that Warren will want. Can't see it happening in the next 6 months at least.

I would like to see him win the Lonsdale outright, he has the time and there are potentially some good match ups for him.

Price and Allen would both be good for DDD, (but not so good for them!). Doubt they happen, so anyone 2 will do. Kash Ali for a laugh maybe?

Maybe a commonwealth defence against Browne or Lepai. (each is a good fight for different reasons).

Then look at getting a WBO euro, EBU, or WBA regular shot depending on the lay of the land and the long term plan. (prob a vacant WBO shot in 2035 knowing Frank).

No need to rush him, but by the same token he gets zero benefit from shambolic opponents like Tetteh. I was amazed by people saying it was okay because it was keeping him busy, it was a farce and dangerous. Tetteh would lose to every one of Dubois' opponents thus far bar maybe Marcus Kelly.

Get him out again before the end of the year, ideally with a name like Price. Price presents a threat, is huge and yet Dubois should ice him and get excellent exposure in doing so. Early next year, target the European title and make some defences of it. Late next year, have him in with a contender...someone like Kownacki.

Yeah, I wouldn't match him with Hughie either due to the risk. At least not in the next 12 months.
