Florida is a nice state (what I’ve seen of it) but it does get smashed by big storms, every year.

Not sure if I’d say ‘fuck this’ and move a bit further north, or inland

florida is shit but it has nice spots

'inland' is not one of those spots

inland is the worst,as a matter of fact

out here on the island, its fucking grand tho.......................fruit trees and sun and surf and more sun and endless miles of beach and more sun

according to experts we are about 17 inches from the sun

so it IS a bit hot

but hey,surfs up [tomorrow]

I’ve been from Pensacola down to Tampa and Clearwater, over to Orlando and onto Titusville area (your neck of the woods, I think) and then down to Miami and the Keys. Yes, there’s some wasteland in between east and west but I’ve seen worse.......just can’t think of any off the top of my head.

Funny that. Harry Potter world was my least favourite part. Full of spoilt kids, shouting screaming and barging, dressed like they on a day out from Hogwarts.

Went to Pensacola to see the Blue Angels and the National Naval Aviation Museum. One of the best I’ve ever been to.

all pretty much shit......................some nice keys but fuck, the big tourist ones are hell....................as is Orlando.................and Tampa..............

and VISITING is entirely different from having to LIVE with these mental cases..............

fucking Titusville :rofl

god, what a pit......................and yes,its about 25 miles away.....................the old county seat, slowly decaying ever since they moved it south ...................Titusville is kinda shit even by shit florida standards.............not to say there aint some nice little spots hidden here and there along the river or out in the woods...........

I spend my days, like my life, east of US 1.....................been weeks at a time without setting foot on the mainland as a matter of fact

fuck that shit

Storm coming from the ocean. Go by the beach to check it out... c'mon Goat
When my cousins and I were kids we'd take old sheets and build a makeshift sail out of them and hook that to our bikes when big storms were heading our way.

You'd be surprised how much wind a queen size sheet can catch and kick a bicycle into beast mode.

Of course, doing the tourist thing is a bit different to living there. I found Titusville to be........quaint. The people were nice and honest and seemed decent enough. I went to a nice German joint on the way to the Space Centre - just looking on google and it may have been Heidelberg’s.

Orlando is fucking mental. The traffic is obscene and the driving is worse; a collection of the worst drivers from all over the world, in one gridlocked shithole.

Heidelberg’s is in Cocoa Beach, not Titusville

'quaint' might be OK for titusville......................like as in 'stuck in 1984.................and slowly rotting away.................

kinda sad really as back in the 50s and 60s it was an astronaut hotspot.................nasa workers and whatnot out there.................until the population centre shifted south, along with the county seat...............

Orlando is utter hell...................

Yeah, I knew that the restaurant wasn’t in Titusville but it all came out in one, continuous stream. Nice place.

Overall, the Space Coast is performing well though, economically? Lots of job creation supported by tax incentives, I read.

its good for business, bad for workers, like the rest of florida

at least its busy I guess.....................tons of new residents flood in every year to fill the new subdivisions they keep building out west on the mainland..................and there is a strong tech sector due to the NASA thing................

still abysmally backwards, ignorant and poor compared to New England TBH..................

but the beach is fucking outstanding..............[not Cocoa Beach, thats a tourist filled hell]..........................and the beach literally wraps around the entire state with almost no breaks................100s of miles of beach

and sun

so I make do,eh?

plus you should fucking see the herb you can grow down here................in the natural sun.....................obscene tbh...............

Workers all over the US seem to be getting a raw deal but at least they get healthcare? And it’s best to be busy....the opposite is bleak.

Doesn‘t sound quite as bad as you initially painted it. Perhaps that’s the line to keep people away?

Truth will out.

I think we will do another trip next year; I’ve got lots of friends along the south, who I keep promising I’ll visit. Just need some political/social stability and this virus to fuck off.

red state workers get it much worse than blue..............they face a whole host of anti labor laws

and not all workers get healthcare packages through their jobs.................thats a perk, not a feature.............and florida workers pay, relative to income, among the highest rates even with job assisted care..............about 15% of ones pay is spent on insurance.........

https://www.tampabay.com/news/business/2019/12/03/florida-workers-rank-near-the-top-in-how-much-they-pay-for-health-insurance/

oh no,its grim for the vast majority..............people with serious tech skills of other top end skills and trades and licences and whatnot can make a decent living...............Im comfortable and living better than I could possibly afford to in New England............but thats because Ive got a fistful of licences and experience and OTHER labor and living costs are reduced............

4 acres and a 3k square foot house would have cost 3 million in the town I grew up in,maybe more..............waaayyyyyyy outta my reach...................here its a fraction of that

take a bit and just find a quiet beach town to chill in,away from the tourists and whatnot.................hell,five miles either way from Cocoa beach and you can have a mile iof beach with three other people on it to enjoy yourself in peace and quiet,eh?

you can always drive to see the tourist stuff...............when ya want

no need to be IN it

just raining now....................been downgraded to a tropical storm

was at the beach earlier...............waves about 5 foot and sloppy as hell.....................did a bit of swimming and boogie boarding in the rain and it was kinda grand

will go back later tonight as the storm gets closer and the waves,hopefully,bigger...........
