183 House Republicans just voted against resuming food safety inspection

H.R. 265 would have provided funding for agriculture, rural development, food stamps, and the Food and Drug Administration.

President Donald Trump’s shutdown is days from breaking the record for the longest in U.S. history, and its harmful impacts are already being felt by millions of Americans. One of the consequences of the partial shutdown is that the Food and Drug Administration has stopped doing most of its food safety inspections — just weeks after a major E. coli outbreak hit the nation’s romaine lettuce supply.

To address this crisis, the House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday that would reopen the small portions of the government that are responsible for agriculture, food safety, and rural development. The legislation, H.R. 265, was approved by a 243 to 183 vote. But just 10 Republicans joined the Democratic majority in support of the bill, while the remaining 183 Republicans voted against it.

President Trump Went to a Border Town to Prove They Need a Wall. Residents Say Otherwise

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/p...residents-say-otherwise/ar-BBS5dzQ?li=BBnb7Kz

what an utter fucktard

anyone who takes him seriously at this point, anyone dumb enough to still be supporting him is,quite obviously,a dangerously stupid cretin and should be quarantined for the safety of the nation and the species........

“We don’t feel a crisis in our city,” Darling says. “That’s one of the problems with just saying there’s a crisis on the border: It affects border towns. We’re a vibrant area. McAllen is the safest city in the state of Texas, and we’re right on the border, so that kind of rhetoric resonates and sells newspapers, but it hurts our area.”

What do you think about the idea of instead of building a wall Trump just digs a moat around the USA and fills it with great white sharks to keep the illegals out so we'd be more like Australia? Pretty fucking sound if you ask me. :bart
if we were 'more like australia' we might all turn into catty bitches like Berry and his palls :bart

we,as clarence points out, need a wall like israel's where we hermetically seal every fuckin inch of the border with canada

because fuck those snowbound shits,amirite?

I'm just going to go on the record here and say I can't stand the whole #MAGA word thing.

Not for reasons you may suspect, but because it's too close to MANGA so every time I see it I'm reminded of warped Japanese anime of 10 tentacled monsters from hell sexually assaulting unsuspecting females.

The government shutdown spotlights a bigger issue: 78% of US workers live paycheck to paycheck

The partial government shutdown, which began Dec. 22, has now stretched well into the new year. President Donald Trump said Friday that it would continue for "months or even years" until he receives the requested $5 billion in funding for a border wall.

The shutdown has left approximately 800,000 federal workers in financial limbo. Around 420,000 "essential" employees are working without pay, while another 380,000 have been ordered to stay home

meanwhile a billionaire POTUS and his multimillionaire republican allies lecture us on the 'emergency' at the border and how we need to pay for the stupid fuckin wall trump promised his fucking retarded supporters mexico would pay for............and if we refuse they will just, you know, stop paying people who work for a living.............

First you need to recognize why they come here.

300 years ago people came here willingly (not the slaves) for the freedom to practice their religions and the freedom to speak freely. They didn't come here for handouts as there weren't any. There was no giant welfare / entitlement system at the time.

Today that isn't the case. Many come here illegally for the benefits. Yes, illegals do get benefits. For one a near guaranteed job under the table. Medical security in the form of emergency room care. Insurance guarantees for children born here. Medicaid-covered births which are the exception for illegals. SNAP benefits for children legally born here. K-12 education benefits in some states and inevitably 18-20 years later a democratic vote.

The question has to be asked. If America were to dismantle the entire entitlement apparatus to the degree there were no more free things (everything food / shelter / etc) had to be earned would illegal migration still occur? Probably not as much as it becomes increasingly clear if given the chance to vote, more of them would vote for handouts than not. Though I do think some still come here for the freedom of speech. It just isn't 10 million that do.

The only solution here if we aren't going to stop entitlements is to stop the flow across the border.
Well stated.

It is strange. Here in the USA a few weeks back it was the Democrats who said we had a humanitarian crisis at the border. Families separated, children dying in CBP custody, not caring about all the women and children, children in cages, etc. Now Trump says the same thing and they all go insane and switch positions. It is actually kind of entertaining.

Not really, I'm not saying anyone can enter. I do believe in border security and following a process. I am for immigration reform. I just don't think a wall is going to help much.

I asked you if you've been here because we're a fucking huge country with loads of land that is just open. It's not really the same as having a beggar live in my living room or garage. There's loads of space where we can build facilities.
So what do you propose should happen to people who don't want to follow the process?

If yall so concerned about the Fed workers, why don't you set up a gofundme and donate your tax cuts to them to help them get through this period?

Trump rejects shutdown deal Republicans negotiated with Republicans

01/11/19 08:41 AM—UPDATED 01/11/19 02:12 PM

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) had credible reasons to believe he could help negotiate some kind of resolution to the ongoing government shutdown. Not only does the GOP senator enjoy close ties to Donald Trump, he’s also played a key role within his party on immigration policy, having helped craft the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” bill.

With this in mind, when there was scuttlebutt on Capitol Hill this week about Graham working behind the scenes on a possible deal, it was at least worth watching. Yesterday, however, those efforts collapsed – because of White House opposition. Politico reported:
President Donald Trump has rejected a plan proposed by a bloc of Senate Republicans who had hoped to break an impasse over the government shutdown, leaving Congress and the White House with little obvious way out of the extended battle over Trump’s border wall.
On the 20th day of the shutdown, the GOP group tried to jump start bipartisan talks before Trump declares a national emergency to get his wall. But the president rejected their idea to allow congressional committees to sort out his border wall request while the government reopened, deeming the idea likely to leave him with nothing to show for the shutdown.
Some of the relevant details of the plan remain elusive, but by all accounts, there was a proposal on the table. Vice President Mike Pence and acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney took it to the president, who balked.

Of particular interest, though, is whom Graham negotiated with. In this case, the Republican South Carolinian worked on a deal with other Republicans, and Democrats were excluded from the process altogether. Despite the fact that Dems control the House, and many Democratic votes would be needed in the Senate, the party was “left out” of the talks and “were never read in” on the proposal.

Even Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), arguably Congress’ most conservative Democrat, and a lawmaker who said he’s prepared to work on a possible compromise, wasn’t invited to the discussions.

What we’re left with is a dynamic in which Republicans negotiated a deal with other Republicans, only to be shot down by a Republican president.

Not surprisingly, Graham announced soon after he’d given up on trying to find a resolution to the shutdown.

Campaign promises got him in office. It's a good idea to fulfill those promises. Fuck the deep state.

The most impotent cock in the land. All hail your lord and savior of complete and utter failure. 16 months and 25 million dollars later he's indicted people for completely trivial shit and has nothing but smoke and mirrors. Please be here when his entire dog and pony show ends in failure. If you need to keep your gun with a neighbor so you don't extend your cranium in a fit of depression that's also advisable.
