I'm an Expert on Hitler. Ask Me Anything.

I dont mean to pick on you but if the Germans were at a logistical disadvantage thats on them. As the vid i posted regarding the battle of stalingrad states, the Germans had plenty of reinforcements, but their logistics and organizational capabilities were lacking.

Its not your fault, theres alot of good historians who are Wehraboos, and NATO needed to rehabilitate the Germans during the cold war. Manstein was allowed to embellish (lost victories). However a more critical eyes are starting to examine the German defeat rather you than simply putting it down to population and inferiority.

Operation Torch, DDay, Uranus, Bagration. Ask yourself, why couldnt the brilliant German generals predict any of these?
Its an interesting discussion, guys, but perhaps you would like to start a thread for that topic itself?

Great thread mate
I’d be fascinated if you get the chance
Austria, or at least Vienna, was quite more socialist than Germany after the first world war. They made an agreement that the Hapsburgs would lose all their property and never be allowed to be involved in politics again in Austria. The rest of the aristorcracy could keep some of their holdings but had to lose the "von" and "zu" parts of the name.
When Germans come here they get a weird look if their name has von in it. German nobility seem these days to be all disfigured from plastic surgery and either drug addicts or porno stars.

That sounds very similar and plausible to a situation we had in Australia after WWII. Many Eastern Europeans were relocated here and resettled and in the interests of assimilation they dropped the “iches” and “viches” from the end of their surnames.
They also adopted westernised Christian names, not because they were being persecuted, but because it was easier for their children to adjust.
I’ve got a Serb mate whose real name is Mjkol Baricevic, his parents asked home to choose his own “Aussie” name so now he is Dave.

Apologies for the long time between posts. This university semester entails more work than I expected.

Basically, there was a constant point of friction between the traditional military and the nazis. This is why the nazis attempted to create a state within a state as well as the Waffen SS.

The SS generally murdered civilians while the military handled prisoner of war camps for allied troops from the west. The Eastern front was the otulier in terms of pows as Hitler had ordered a general command for all soviet commissars to be shot. Nazi propaganda had also indoctrinated the population to believe that Slavic people were "subhumans".

We should also not accept that there was a clear distinction between orderly and disorderly treatment of prisoners. There is considerable evidence that the military was also responsible for crimes against humanity and were influenced by nazi propaganda too.

1939 - Planning the war

By 1939 Hitler was unhappy. He had carved out most of central Europe and added it to his empire via diplomatic means. Hitler wanted war, however. He wanted a population tempered by war. He wanted a war without end. He wanted to see the hordes of Eastern Europe driven back past the Urals, the fertile lands to be colonized by Aryan families.

Standing on the German border was target # 1: Poland.

Poland was seen as an abomination to the Nazis. The country covered parts of former Germany and in particular divided Germany from the town of Danzig. Nazis demanded a corridor between the two.

Poland would be the testing ground for Germany's new military - a weak enemy situated on relatively flat ground. Still, the Nazi leadership feared the public outcry over outright aggression. The military cautioned Hitler that they were not yet prepared for his dream of invading the USSR, advising him to wait until 1943.

The nazis came up with two ideas to sustain some form of legitimacy. 1) to ally with the USSR and avoid a two front war 2) create a Jewish/polish plot to begin the war

In August 1939, the world stood with jaws hanging open in shock as Nazi Germany and the USSR announced a treaty of non-aggression. The secret deal was that Poland would be divided by both countries and the baltic states would become fodder for Stalin. Nazi foreign minister Ribbentrop - a foolish man who would later blunder his way through negotiations with Britain - came home triumphantly announcing the pact. Germany's flank was secure and the British and French had lost an ally.

Obviously, Hitler's rhetoric had for a long time put forth the idea of a secret Jewish cabal pushing Europe towards destruction. Poland was painted as the Jewish capital of depravity - a poor country designed by backstabbing jews at the end of the first world war. Goebbels and his propaganda ministry ratcheted up the hate for Poland. They had stolen German glory. They were dirty, diseased and susceptible to bolshevism.

The SS quickly created plans to begin the war with confusion. SS troops were given Polish uniforms and plans to commit sabotage on the German border, instigating a German invasion. World War 2 would begin with this false flag operation.

One week before the war was set to begin Hitler summoned his generals to his mountain retreat on the Austrian border. This was to be a secret meeting. This was where he informed them that they would soon fight a war the likes of which had not been seen in Europe since the dark ages. He roared to his minsters of war:

" I have prepared my Death's Head formations with orders to kill without pity or mercy all men, women, and children of Polish descent or language. Only in this way can we obtain the living space we need "

@Drunkenboat What reading material would you suggest I have a look at re: Hitler and Nazi Germany?

Ian Kershaw's book I'm told is a good read.

Mate when iT comes to the normal military (whermacht, kriegsmarine etc etc)
Fact is........ they committed no more or worse warcrimes then the allied.

People always blabla on about this but read in to iT : american GI’s for example committed also a fair share of warcrimes not only in the pacific but for example alsook sicily and italy.

As for propaganda : the japanese where in usa and by usa propaganda also portaid as evil subrace.
Hell George Patton spoke in favor of killing german prisoners of war (later confronted by Eisenhower he took back his Words)

Fact is history is written by the winners.

Might be true in austria but I'm sure the poles and russians would disagree with that sentiment.
Well i am not sure the russians where so much better for the poles then the germans.
In the bezinning of the war when poland was divided between russia and germany the russians straight away started by arrest polish anti communists, aristocracy and intelligentsia people.
Also the massacres of katyn where the russian executed between 10.000 and 20.000 polish peoples.

Ofcourse the germans did horrible things but don’t forget Stalin was responsible for way more deaths then hitler
