Black Panther for best picture

holy fuck

SURELY those in Hollywood responsible for this understand just how transparent and pathetic that is,right?
I honestly don't understand the Black Panther thing. There's been plenty of great movies with people of colour as the main cast and major characters. Blade was a superhero movie with a black superhero 20 years ago and no one batted an eye. Why latch on to Black Panther....? The villian was pretty good (as far as Marvel villian go) but other than that it was an overwhelmingly average movie, even among superhero movies.

Because of the timing of the outrage of black people against the Oscars. It's the hot topic, and they feel that this puts them ahead of a society, that they believe to be becoming intolerant.

Yeah, but Moonlight won an oscar, Fences was nominated. BlacKkKlansman is nominated this year as well. 12 Years a Slave. Crash. Slumdog. Precious. Hidden Figures. I'm sure there's a bunch more I can't even think of right now. Going all the way back to The Colour Purple. There's been loads of great movies that have main characters of colour or a majority cast of people of colour. Black Panther was a mediocre movie among a large batch of mediocre movies. It wasn't special in any way shape or form. Yet, people have latched onto it as some sort of victory or example to be followed. It's like latching on to the movie Boomerang for having a majority black cast.

It got that hype, homie. That barrier breaking hype, even if it broke no real barriers.

are/were 'black people' really 'outraged' by the oscars?

and if so,WHY?

christ on a cock, this country needs counseling...............
As a whole? Nah. It was the narrative at the time though. It's a complicated thing. They are detached from reality in that Hollywood and media community. Then things on social media create things in the news which people in film believe is the way things are. It's a weird weird world.

i don't care about the oscars but it is kinda strange that the supposed ground breaking movie is a long running character who was created by 2 white guys in a fairly business minded way.

wtf, I thought the Oscars had already been on and Black Panther won best picture already, am I imagining this shit?

Then I saw a story that they won't have an anchor this year because Kevin Hart made some "faggot" jokes, so I guess not ... what in the fuck is going on!

They'll have Black Panther doing a sweep because that's Progressive... fuck any kind of actual serious critical evaluation of the movie itself... I dunno why that annoys me so much, it's not like I give a fuck about the Oscars anymore but the obviousness of this virtue signalling is nauseating. If I was a black person, I'd find this obvious pandering and treating me like a child, patting me on the head and saying "there you go, good boy, there's a movie and some oscars for you guys" as a little bit condescending.

I guess I kinda get it, it's a movie which portrays a black society which has nothing but good strong positive black characters, the society is more advanced than any other society, the people are the most intelligent in the world, blah blah, but isn't it also like kinda saying "but not really guys, this shit would only happen in a Sci-Fi movie", I'm actually interested in how history will look back on Black Panther.

Don't forget that "Roma" movie which is a total and complete turd. Only nominated because, you know, it's about an oppressed Mexican Indian maid.
