No one.

Which is exactly my point.

You never hear anyone categorically state that the issues that are being seen are not a direct result from the Euro. Yet you see plenty of people, with the same (lack of) information categorically stating that it is a direct result.

It's ridiculous, ill informed, agenda driven nonsense.
Multiverse economics :clap

You dont even understand that to prove something it must fucking happen.

Care to enlighten me on how italy is better now?

Have the Guardian blamed it on Italy having a 'far right' government yet?

And who's to say those countries wouldn't be worse off without the support of the EU and Euro?

Yes, Clarence. That sounds right, doesn't it? A union created, and evolved, largely to serve the financial interests of a few (something you yourself complain about) created a currency union with no plan. That sounds reasonable.

You fuckin' idiot.

That's the only thing I've ever read from you that is actually correct.

Well done.
I suggest you read the Stieglitz book the Euro.

I await your sarcky reply.

I suggest you learn to read, ya fat bastard.
And that was the quality of your sarky response.

When every major economist has looked at the Euro including Nobel prize winners like Stieglitz and concluded that it is fucked and I have read their works, you respond read more.

Go on recommend works by economists which tell us all how wonderful the Euro is for balance.

@mandela,

This thread was never intended to be Brexit related. But there is a belief and argument alot of Italy's ills are due to the being part of the Euro and to a lesser extend the European single market. Not the EU politically.

Throw in Germany on the edge. Chuck in a little France issues. Some Greece. And maybe another one or two. It's not good.

The core issues the currency. Having a single strength currency spread over so many economic models doesn't work. Because the country can't leverage it's strengths and weaknesses. Devalue it's currency for its export requirements like for example Japan did for the last decade odd to boost exports to compete Vs China. Italy can't do that because the other 26 countries needs are a lead weight to them. And so their economy stutters.

Heck the same thing happened with Greece. How sustainable is this going forwards???? It's the very definition of kicking the can down the road...........

You put the argument out there that this was rooted before the euro currency via corruption etc.......well if that isn't ending aren't things just going to get worse? And it won't just affect Italy but other countries with it.

Germany is on the brink. They're certainly not as corrupt as Italy. But right there on the edge. Europe's breadbasket. Ask what it will take for the fall of others to drag it down?

sure in the west we have this thing called borrowing......but that's purely a band aid slapped on a cut artery. It's not a solution but a temporary fix to hide the bitter reality from people.

Firstly, I don't actually agree with currency unions, in most cases. I certainly wouldn't want to be part of the Euro or a Former United Kingdom Pound. I think I've made that abundantly clear, man.

However, what I'm not prepared to do, which the usual suspects are, is immediately relate every economic problem a country in the EU has to the Euro. It's fuckin ridiculous and, frankly, bizarre. Price of apples has went up in Spain - the Euro. Germany produced less cars last year than the year before - the Euro. Portuguese kids aren't getting as much pocket money as the used to - the Euro. The cost of admission to the Eiffel Tower has increased - the Euro.

It's fuckin basic, stupid, agenda driven willful ignorance.

But most of all it's just boring as fuck, man.

I tried one once. It was quite nice, actually. Very rich though. Although the place i got it served the fun size mars bars. I can imagine a full size one.

I always remember hearing about them but general chippies don't actually sell them...maybe some do but i could never find them. The chippies in touristy places do though. I got my when i was in Oban. Served with ice cream. Would def recommend, man.
