Good direction for DC to go in. Stand alone films about characters we don't know about in stories that have something a little new to tell. Hopefully they do more of that and break away from how they started out in their cinematic universe.

I'm not keen on the new Wonder Woman trailer. Another set in the 80's film which negates the consequences of deeds of the first film and looks little more than a cash grab. It'll set them back if it doesn't hold up.

I've no interest in another Batman film either. It's sooo boring hearing they are doing it again. OK Affleck bored us to death, just let the corpse rest awhile then go back to it. Sure DC have other guys or gals to pick from?
Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, animal man, and Zatana, could all have Shazam style comedic movies.

Some of the Vertigo stuff like The Authority of Human Target would be good.

They also have a host of weird "goth" characters they could do something with, and retro detective characters like the question.

Finally, I would love a version of any of Grant Morrison's work. Every run he has with a character has something interesting in it. I really liked his animal man and seven soldiers stuff for lesser known characters.

Isn't this like the 3rd or 4th time they've done this too?

I remember when Suicide Squad was released, DC fans were vowing that they would never pay to see another DC film in theaters and would just wait for the inevitable "director's/extended cut" to come out on DVD.

In response, DC vigorously denied that there would ever be an alternate cut of SS - only to subsequently release one on DVD. :rolleyes
Yeah apparently they butchered Suicide Squad in post production. Originally I think it was supposed to be a far darker film. They ordered changes which left much of Leto's Joker on the cutting room floor etc. Think that alternate cut you're talking about might just be a few extra scenes added in rather than a drastically different film. The director has hinted at that in the last couple of days.

Haven't seen suicide squad....but now seeing this clip I have even less desire to watch it
Maybe it's just me. But I could see the style he was going for.

People are judging him on a limited screentime.

If we got a 3 minute Arthur Fleck with Pheonix people would be bashing it just as much.

DC is basically throwing anything at the wall and seeing what will stick. So far, we've gotten...

-Dark action film (BvS)
-Light-hearted Marvel-style action (Justice League)
-Deadpool-like comedy/satire (Shazam)
-Story/actor-driven drama (Joker)
-Feminist garbage (Birds of Prey)

Some have been hits, some have been misses, but there's been no single and consistent vision to their work.

How have DC got it so wrong lately?

Watchmen and The Dark Knight were great films. Everything else has been naff since except Aquaman which was actually okay considering he’s basically a mermaid.

I don't they particularly need a vision that means all their films look the same. Especially not one that is dark and depressing. Just make good films. That can be in different styles. Better to actually be in different styles so we get a varied out put.

You look at the darkness of Joker and the comedic lightness of Shazam and you've got how DC should be moving along. You've got the big budget CGI fest's like Aquaman and Wonder Woman too. It's just a shame that the duds could have been very good too. Suicide Squad could have been fun, bit it was a mess of a film that had way too many darker elements in it that killed it. Harley Quinn was great in that movie, it should have focused on her and played out simple, then they go and SJW her stand alone and kill the character rather than just aiming for a really good movie.

Marvel have duds too and a lot of the films are way too long and hard to sit through more than once. But at least you can have one good viewing of them. When you think of a log of DC stuff you just want to kill yourself, but I guess that was what Snyder was going for?

Did you watch the Watchmen series? I avoided it luckily, didn't realize it was DC.

I watched it. Started off a bit ropey but then got better, it's a pretty good show, though I saw the twist coming. It's not like the other DC TV shows like The Flash and Supergirl, very different feel and better for it.

I know BB liked it. But I thought it was horrid sjw trash. The racist symbolism and virtue signalling killed it for me, it was like that movie Get Out. It just went hammer and tong for the 'Even if they're you're friends and are nice to you they're still racist and hate you' angle which I think is a danger to society. People pushing that agenda are just though are insecure and looking for a hate that's just not there. Stuff like this shouldnt be seen as brave or eye opening imo.

Bane was a great villain in part 3 but woefully misused with a piss poor story full of plot holes. But the character was great and deserved much better. Hardy nailed it.

Fully agree with that. Loved that Bane. It had some great moments in it too and the soundtrack. It's still a movie I've gone out of my way to avoid ever watching again though.

This whole thing got me thinking that now it might be possible to see the proper sequel to The Crow. Absolutely love the first film and while the second was shit it was butchered beyond belief. Was originally supposed to have a runtime of 160 minutes but it got chopped down to 80 something by the studio who wanted to make it more like the Brandon Lee film. The director and writer completely disowned the film as a result. Apparently if you bought the pay per view version of it years ago it had the full uncut film so it exists out there. I'd be interested in seeing it anyway as it sounds far better and far more fleshed out than what was released.
