Jeff Horn 19-1-1 has knocked back the opportunity to face Japanese middleweight Ryota Murata in Tokyo, as the fight would clash with the birth of his second child.

Horn was offered close to $2 million for the bout but walked away when it was rescheduled from June 2 to July 12 as his wife Jo is scheduled to give birth three weeks earlier.

Murata, the gold medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, lost his WBA ‘regular’ title in his last fight in October to Rob Brant.

Geez that’s a big pay day for Jeff to pass!

Birth of a child is a big thing but how many other multi million dollar pay days are there for him??

I wish more fighters were like Golovkin. Dude kept training even when his wife was pregnant. You have to have a dedication for the sport like that when you're vying for the top. Horn is an idiot for not taking the cash. Now, I don't think he should be fighting at MW, but for a payday like that, I'd fight Wilder!

He should've taken the fight and used the purse to buy a house for his newborn kid. That way he knows he at least has set his kid up when he/she becomes an adult.

Yeah he could lose but he won't be getting $2m offered anytime soon.

Salient point, and having been there for two child births myself, I can honestly say I’d sooner be getting punched in the face in a foreign country than enduring that.

Ran this by the missus last night. her only comments were "what a man" followed by half an hour of her ripping into me about not being reliable and that this is the sort of thing that makes her question if she marries me blah blah all because I had the nerve to tell her that it's good to see Jeff isn't solely motivated by money in life but I imagine it would have been a difficult decision to make. Or at least one where you need to consider the pros and cons of both.

Bloody women I tell ya!
