That was some sort of performance by Tim. I predicted he would win but not in that sort of manner.

I even heard Paulie Malignaggi predict Tim Tszyu would “go down as the best Australian-born boxer ever”. Now that is a huge prediction when you think about Fenech, Fammo, Rose.
I agree with Paulie, and I recognise talent better than anybody. TT has balance and composure at the very elite level. The only thing that could stop him is if his chin isn’t the best. When a fighter is as calm and precise with their head movement as TT, it’s very unlikely they’ve ever been troubled by punches. The precision of his punches is due to his balance and composure.

I’d be quite happy if you were correct on this one

I couldn’t see Kostya at the fight and also Tim was very insistent in the interview that he wasn’t ‘son of’ he was Tim. Are they in contact?

As far as I was concerned the fight went exactly the way I said it would. Tszyu ko7 was my prediction, was only a round off. Fact is tszyu is a good boxer, horn is not. I said very early in this thread that many people are writing tszyu off early here.

That doesn't mean that I am getting carried away with this win though, horn was never that good to begin with, and was very overrated since Pacquiao.

We will see just how good Tim tszyu is when he hits the states and fights real world title contenders,

Until then, good win for him, and good for Australian boxing, hopefully it lifts the profile of the sport here

I saw an article a day or two before the fight and both Kostya and Tim were quoted in it saying they are on good terms. Kostya says he is always a part of hi sosns life and they speak regularly. Tim was saying that though his dad has only been to one of his fights he is always supportive.
Take that as you may I guess.

But yeh nah you're right. Kostya wasn't at the fight. He was watching from Russia

I heard a fairly recent interview, might have been with Ben Damon, where Tim and Kostya were joking around, reminiscing and getting on like best mates.

Considering Kostya has remarried in Russia and has children to the new wife, Tim's relationship with him is surprisingly good.

Horn's own cornerman admits he was gassed after 2 rounds :

"By the end of the second round I thought Jeff was gassed," Horn's cornerman Stephen Edwards Edwards said.

"He got by on pure heart from that point".

"From round five onwards there were some robust discussions in our corner about where the fight was heading."

"Jeff had taken a lot of punishment." His legs were gone, his power was gone, his speed was gone and he had no petrol left. We were way behind on the scorecards".

How could you be out of steam after two rounds? That sounds bs to me. Tszyu is just on another level to him, why can't he admit it.

Or why cant he admit he is not that good a boxer, and has been way overrated since Pacquiao.

No professional could seriously come into a fight and be done after just two rounds, come on

I hear what you are saying, but I'm not sure the cornerman is necessarily making excuses for Horn. Perhaps more a case of just being honest that Horn was fucked.

I do wonder though if, in a week or a month or even a year, we will hear that Horn was incapacitated right through his fight camp, couldn't spar, was put on a drip...you know, all the usual losing fighter excuses.

Well it's not like he didn't have time to prepare, it's covid after all, he's had like 6 months.

And he did say before the fight he's in the best shape of his life, stronger than ever, Tim's in a lot of trouble etc.

So for them to turn around now and say he's done after two rounds?

I dont buy it, why can't he just admit tszyu is better than him.

Many of the Supercar drivers and crews who were in Townsville had tickets for the fight but were instructed not to attend.
