Is it normal in Japan for the champion to be introduced first and the fighter's surnames to be announced before their first names? Round 2 was entertaining, the crowd are very orderly, they were clapping in sync at the action

The surname thing is normal, it's the same in Korea.

Japanese fans are good, and typically very respectful, so clapping is common.


Don't know about the champion coming first. Would need to check some old fight footage to check.

When I saw the champion being introduced first I tried to take my mind back to Mayweather's fight there or an Inoue fight, I think he fought Donaire at home but since that was a WBSS fight I figured whatever happened there wouldn't necessarily be a reflection of what usually happens in Japan, Mayweather too, I can't remember if he was called out last, no one was a champion but again, regardless of customs and traditions I'm sure Mayweather was introduced second and this wouldn't be a reliable indication of the norm since he even made Ortiz ringwalk first in the US when he challenged him for his Welterweight title

Good fight, I had it 3-1 to Tanaka going into the 5th, I see some of you all have it the other way around. Either way, after the 4th it was all Ioka.

Me too I was going to start a thread in World Boxing then saw there was one here, I think it's because it was on British TV but I'm glad it was already here so I didn't have to bother
