Keith Thurman is his career done?

  • CHB will be closing down as of 31st July 2021. It's been a brilliant experience to run the website for the past 9 years, however it's time for me to move onto different projects. Thanks to every single person involved, from staff, former staff, posters old and current. All support means more than anyone knows. Thanks for your understanding.

What are your thoughts?.

He seemed to be star in the making when he beat Shawn Porter.
But with only 4 fights in the last 5 years and regular injuries.

Its seems like his career will be about what could have been and should have been.

With victories over Porter and Garcia he has a similar resume to Spence Jr (and it'll get even more similar if Pacman wins his next fight), but it seems that ever since he got married his hunger for boxing diminished. Look how he turned up to fight Pacquaio, before that he'd given up his WBC title, then he underestimates Manny and finds himself playing catch up in the fight and now you barely hear from him apart from the odd Fight Hype interview.

Spence Jr has said he isn't interested in Thurman and basically it's just payback for when Thurman didn't want to give Spence Jr a shot when the tables were turned. When you're at 147 and with PBC but are not fighting it's probably because you don't want to fight. He could fight Ugas for the title even though he's coming off a loss but he won't, I think he just wants one final big payday and then we won't see him anymore unfortunately.

Well its a shame...Thurman seemed to have a more engaging and media friendly personality then the likes of Crawford And Spence.

More intelligence and a greater vocabulary then Adrian Broner.

He's a smart man and knows he will get beat by any A and most B level fighters. I think Danny Garcia would win the rematch. Porter too. Ugas beats him also. The marriage, injury, and time off did him in.

I hope he stays away because his career may not end well. Spence has only gotten better and will continue to.

Well, in all fairness, a potato has more intelligence than Broner. He bought into the hype lock, stock and barrel and really failed to live up to it. Then his troubles outside the ring with multiple "Failures to Appear" in court that resulted in even more legal trouble for him only made him look more like a clown.

As for Thurman, he's got a good resume in the ring and that last loss to Pacquaio is nothing to be ashamed of since Pac will go down as one of the All-Time Greats in the sport. However, fighting as little as he has for the past several years is not ideal for a fighter, especially one getting older in a division where many fighters don't fight past their mid 30's. Then there's the near 2 years of inactivity since his last fight.

He looked utterly explosive on the way up, knocked some durable contenders, friend of Jeff Lacy both trained by Dan Birmingham, waded through the early comp, fought the fellow unbeaten boxerpuncher argentinian Diego Chavez, hell of a fight, since then he's been extremely inactive

This should be interesting Porter has improved and Thurman has regressed.
If that fight is made, I'd put my money on Porter. He's been more active with his last fight being in August of 2020 and losing a split decision to Spence in 2019 while Thurman hasn't fought in almost 2 years now in a loss to Manny Pacquaio.
