Perhaps. But with Manny we’ve seen a steady decline for a number of years - even involving a loss (albeit a robbery) to someone he would normally have stood on his head.

The evidence for Thurman’s decline rests only on one bad fight. One which could largely be due to ring rust.

I guess we’ll see on fight night. Hope Pac wins.
Problem is ring rust doesnt make your chin bad or your survival instincts fail, Thurman got hit by 1 good punch and was out on his feet and showed no clinch, obviously he still has time to work on a clinch but if his chin is that bad against Pac I doubt he will recover

It certainly wasn't a good look. But I didn't seen enough there to declare his chin that bad. In my opinion.....
  • Firstly, he was in a very bad position when he got clipped (that triggered the jelly legs). His chin was open and body swaying/leaning into the left hook that clipped him. He also didn't see the punch coming. It's possible that it may have just been one of those clean shots that rattled the brain/signals.
  • Secondly, his legs still kept him up. For an entire minute or so his they were strong enough to keep him on his bike. Sure, his defensive skills/IQ were poor and Lopez kept touching him. But physically, he was stubborn enough to stay up, survive, and even have a rally of his own in the end.
  • Thirdly, we've not seen his chin cracked often enough for it to be glass. The only other time I can recall him being shaken up was against Karass. And Collazo (but that was to the body). And it's not like Thurman keeps that chin tucked in fights. It's regularly puts it to the test (Porter, Garcia, etc). If in that entire time he's only been rocked twice (let alone touch the canvas), I think his chin will hold up against a not-so relentless Pacquiao. Which leads me to my final point....
  • ....The Pacquiao of today won't unload punches in bunches like Lopez did. And as great as Pacquiao is, finishing an opponent isn't his greatest asset. Even if he does clip Thurman and hurt him, I guarantee he'll let him get away. His preferred counterpunching style will make Thurman's night easier.

Can't help but think how Thurman's days are numbered. No way does he stand at the top when all is said and done. I doubt he could beat Danny Garcia in a rematch. Interesting to see what becomes of him.

Thurman makes some good points. Let Spence v Porter happen first. Also says he has never seen a contract.
This is why Arum is calling for a Crawford vs Spence PPV right now because it would be a 50/50 split, after the winners of Thurman vs Pacquiao and Spence vs Porter fight they will be number 1 at WW they will demand a bigger split against Crawford, Bob Arum wont make it happen then because of his pride

Nah, sick of his bullshyt. Every year he keeps moving things back another year. Now 2020 is a good year to fight Spence. Even in that interview he's making more excuses as to why they shouldn't fight immediately.

Never seen a contract, when he's been champ and in position to offer the contract himself all along. He could have already unified against Spence, for all three titles, yet failed to do so.

People with a propensity for getting injured generally don't play the waiting game.

He was injured and coming off surgery when they wanted him to fight Spence. Had he fought him last year I don't think he would've been close to his best. I vaguely remember all the events, but now it makes sense to me.

He's the champ at WW. Spence hasn't fought anyone in Thurman's class besides Kell Brook. At the very least Spence has to fight Shawn Porter so their can be interest in the fight, but as of yet I don't think he has earned it or would it be a smart move on Thurman's part. The fight just doesn't make sense right now and nobody is calling for it. Had he fought Spence earlier this year or in July it wouldn't be the fight we expect. Thurman has to comeback slowly.

I'm with you, I want the big fights too, but it never did and still doesn't make sense for them two to fight. Nobody is calling for that fight at WW, we just want to see Spence fight and he may as well unify because he is unproven and there is 0 interest in him and Thurman fighting. I can't say Spence deserves a shot at the #1 WW more than Porter and Garcia either. Spence hasn't earned it yet he must fight Shawn Porter so they can have a common opponent.

Thurman v Pacman, Spence v Porter, and Garcia v Garcia are the fights to make.

Pacman is an ATG, still active, and Thurman is still #1 until proven otherwise. It makes way more sense and $$$ than Thurman v Spence now.

I don't dislike Spence, or any of them, but

I want Spence to fight everybody not just Thurman. It be a shame for him to skip Garcia and Porter who are more established and proven in the division imo. PBC won't let that happen and good on their part. Spence can't just skip over Porter and Garcia he's gotta go through at least one of them to get to the #1 WW.

He can fight them after he beats Thurman. These guy's primes are wasting away and you want to waste time seeing second rate fights? C'mon man.

And, make no mistake, Errol Spence IS the number one welterweight.
