Where's Strike? He wrote me a 5000 word essay when I said Messi doesn't show up to big games. Guess who didn't show up to the biggest game of all?

Stoke-ish
That being said, the guy has as many games where he doesn't step up in the biggest ones, as the ones he does step up. One of the most talented players of all time, but I don't think he has it to be considered the greatest, he was anonymous the last two games. It's not even like he tried everything but just couldn't do it - which we'd accept, respect and praise for it. He just is anonymous, and almost a one trick pony in the way he does play which is why teams seem to find it easier to shut him down in the biggest games lately.

Messi's past his best. We know this. He's had a good tournament overall though.

But I really don't think he's enough of a commander in the way Zidane was.
Yes.

The leadership shown here is not only commendable but timely too. Most players would choose a less significant moment than the World Cup final to take on the mantle or responsibility like Zidane did, but not him, he picked the biggest stage of them all to step up and show his team what sacrifice is all about.

Messi has been class this World Cup.

It feels like I have been the only cunt sticking up for him following his semi final and final.

If any other player had CARRIED their team to the finals stages the way he did, but were unknown (a la HAMESH RODRIGUESH) they would have been worshipped.

The levels of expectation on the cunt is unreal. If Messi was a let down, what the fuck was Ronaldo? What was Higain, and Di Maria, and Ozil? I literally read yesterday 'Messi player of the tournament? That's a fucking joke, he did nothing out of the group stages, should have been Robben/Neuer/Schweinsteiger/Mascherano/Zabaleta/any cunt who hadn't dictated/won a game on their own, let alone several'.

And Robben, who did fuck all in the semi final too, and who dived in a quarter over the leg of a 40 year old he couldn't beat?

Don't worry I am 100% team Messi in this World Cup. He has been let down by having to impress and thoroughly ignorant global audience of hundreds of millions. Messi did plenty of quality bits of play last night and in the semi, but was let down by shite and underperforming team mates. I have no idea why Perez is in the team. Higuain was laughably bad, if at all onside. Messi played Aguero in for a certain goal and the cunt was span around and fell on his arse. Welcome to Messi's teammates, the players he has had had to endure the last month in spite of, as opposed to in awe of.

Possibly the most ridiculous choice of the top 3. Rodriguez, Muller, both way way better across the tournament. But hey, it's FIFA. Anything to award something to Messi.
Absolute bollocks. You need your fucking head testing if you thought Muller has been a better player this World Cup than Messi.

An Argentina with Muller and not Messi wouldn't have made it out of the group stages. What about a Germany with Messi? Messi has not been a poor individual player at all - he has been bogged down in a stale team lacking creativity and end product.

bollox. The rest of the team was massively effective in getting them to the final. Didn't concede in the knockout stages!!! Without the rest of that team Messi would have never reached the final.

I don't think Messi had a bad tournament but he wasn't even the best player for Argentina nevermind the world cup Ramero was Argentinas best player this tournament.

I like your equation

10 players to keep a clean sheet

1 player to win matches

Lots of clean sheets = ergo, Mascherano Argentina's best player.

The other 10 players took Messi to a final, not vice versa.

What ridiculous logic.

Yeah, a few saves and a good penalty shootout totally eclipses 4 stunning match winning goals and a worldy extra time assist.

Have a word with yourself son.
