Apparently he went to France for a stem cell treatment, has now been discharged, and "is conscious".

No real information and it seems pretty clear that he's a million miles from recovered..... but it sounds like he may be making some small progress.

Thoughts?

How long ago was the accident? And what is defined as conscious? If he's just conscious now, what was he before? In a coma for 5+ years?

I'm assuming we'll never see of him again. The family have done a top job of keeping everything private, which is great tbh.

He was in one for like a year I think then he was just in like a vegetative non coma state (i think, not a doctor tbh) for the last few years. As a doctor I strongly doubt he can make any kind of recovery to become a normal person again.

I wonder if someone said "that gimp lewis hamiltons about to break all your records!" and that snapped him out of it

So do they mean conscious as in aware? Because surely technically you're still conscious in a vegetative state? Like you're awake aren't you?

He had money so go to private clinic..
If he was average Joe then this would not have been possible..

I hate iT when rich people can buy shit like this..
Healthcare should be the same for all... rich and poor.. no private clinics..

I am dead serious iT should not be possible that when you have money you can buy more or better healthcare...

Education and healthcare should be the same for everybody..
If you and i have to be on a waiting list fir example then so should the president or the king and queen..
Private clinics should be banned...
It was more your first line.

Weird, it's a private hospital with a secret formula? Crazy trusting your life to something like this, but I guess if you don't have anywhere to turn and it ended up working. A bit surprised this is even legal in France.

Oh give over you blathering halfwit, a good mate of mine suffered serious head injuries in a motorcycle crash, it's only because of treatment he got via private healthcare that he's back to his old self, he's not rich either.

There are arguments to suggest that if you put yourself on two wheels and travel at 180mph around circuits like Donington Park or the Isle of Man then you're heading for a fall.

As for healthcare, I can't get a doctor's appointment at all, and I'm struggling to find a dentist who'll fit me in before a six week wait. I have to pay private despite paying thousands in taxes and NI.

This lad wasn't hurt racing though, he was hit head on by some clown overtaking on a blind bend(plus in racing you have separate insurance to cover medical costs). I also pay private for the reasons you state, can't get an appointment at an NHS GP or dentist because they're overrun. Fucking stupid it is.

His treatment sounds fairly cutting edge. In a way his wealth and inequity is probably furthering medical science.

Top reply Ant.

What kind of money do you pay for the insurance when racing?

My car insurance is £550. I'd imagine that your bike insurance is just daft money.

Cost me about a grand per year, mine wouldn't have been much use if I suffered life changing injuries like paralysis but for things like broken bones etc. it would be sufficient to cover loss of earnings. It depends on the type of cover you want though, if you want to race abroad you'll be looking at higher premiums for repatriation etc. plus you'll have to pay more if you want to do any racing which takes place on notoriously dangerous circuits(IOM for instance).
